Chapter 20

When Ishaan saw her the next morning she took his breath away. She’d done her hair up in a fall of curling ringlets like falling silver and her gown was tightly fitted to her until it flared out around her knees in a mermaid’s tail. It was open at the chest, showcasing a deep blue gem that seemed to be embedded in the skin of her chest. It was oval and glimmered in the light that came from the overhead bulbs and he wondered how it stayed where it was without a chain. It couldn’t really be embedded over her heart like it looked, could it?

She raised a hand and touched it and that’s when he knew he’d been staring. “It is the soul stone, it signifies my office as the Soul of the Flight.”

“Right, sorry for staring. It just looks like it’s embedded into you.” Ishaan tore his eyes away and looked her in the eye.
