Chapter 44

“I’m not going to lie,” Ishaan protested as he followed the woman out of the Body chamber and down the hall. The Flight lined the hall and all of them looked either angry or suspicious. Ishaan tried to smile at them, but any of them he made eye contact with simply looked back with angry eyes.

“The Flight knows what you have done to our Soul.” The Heart led him through the gauntlet of furious people and into a room off to one side. “They do not know the extent of it, only that you were there when she was injured. They do not know that you then betrayed her love with another human.”

Ishaan flinched and sighed. “I’m not going to make excuses for what I did, I was a drunk idiot and I hope that someday she’ll talk to me again.”

“You have no hope of forgiveness?” The Heart traced a finger up the frame of the door and a trail of light sealed around it.
