Chapter 73

Ishaan was very very careful. It took him a month to find the engines and another to study the way that the harmonics worked. He was careful to never spend too much time in one place, always on the move. He found the transports, found the galaxy map and the kitchens, he even made it to some of the more populated areas of the city-ship. He didn’t want to kill these people, with the exception of Sorakov maybe. He just wanted them to go back to where they came from and leave the Flight and humanity in peace.

He was in the engine room, listening closely to the harmonics when Sorakov found him one day. “She doesn’t want me around in the daytime.” Ishaan said sadly. It wasn’t hard for him to fake being sad and worried. “She says I make the bed too hot at night and she sleeps better when I’m not there.”

“Is the whelp healthy?” Sorakov demanded, eyes alight with that avaricious hunger. “Is my little bird feeding well and walking as I told her to?”
