Venera did not say yes or no, only an "oh" to indicate that she had heard the man but not to indicate that she would listen to the man's words.

Caius nodded, taking the little girl's "oh" as her assent. Satisfied with her response, the magic he had released was instantly relieved, and his mood improved, visible to the naked eye.

The servants around them inwardly heaved a sigh of relief.

Thankfully, the vampire king was merciful.

Venera did not say anything else and only fiddled with her fingers in boredom when she had finished her breakfast.

Caius left soon after to do his pile of paperwork, not forgetting to say a few precautions to the little girl before he stepped out the door.

"Goodbye, brother," Venera said, waving her hand at the man as a farewell gesture before the doors were closed. "You have to remember our promise."

"I will," Caius replied with a smile.
