"Nolan-sama! Just what is the meaning of this!?"
Marcus and every one else were reasonably panicking, bewildered by the otherworldly sight of a tsunami of fire engulfing the enemy forces. I myself couldn't hide the shock on my face. How could I? Just now, about a fourth of the enemies has been annihilated in a blink of an eye.
The goblins and kobolds were toasted on the spot. While some of the trolls and minotaurs managed to survive the initial blast because of their high resistance to magic, most of them only managed to endure for a few seconds longer before they succumbed to the burns in their bodies as well.
"Unbelievable!" Marcus exclaimed.
I can only nod in agreement.
After seeing her true nature in front of my eyes, I'm left speechless. I expected her to be strong, but none like this. It's truly fortunate that she's on our side...
"Tsk!" I clicked my tongue in frustration.
Just what is with her? Her personality don't match her strength at all.
So this is this is what she actually looks like when she's serious? It's shockingly different from the lustful succubus she becomes in bed.
As the seconds passed, a number of elemental spells were casted in the battlefield, eliminating a huge portion of the enemy forces in the process. The ease in which they were dealt with was almost laughable. The Dark army, which was considered a catastrophic threat, was now being treated like a bunch of weaklings.
Soon, a few stronger monsters appeared in front of Eria - a chimera, a warrior naga, even an unbelievably large cyclops, and yet all of them were also quickly dealt with. Eria did not use magic to beat them, instead, she relied on her sword to cut their bodies apart.
Eria's the first person I saw with her class. She's a very unique magical swordsman. As the name suggests, she's adept in both swordsmanship and magic.
I can see how she can work successfully alone as an adventurer, she can cover the two offensive sides of a full party. From what I witnessed before, she can even cover the role of a support with the variety of spells she could perform. I'm not quite certain of it, but she really must be one of a kind.
One could only imagine the powerhouse her party would be if she ever forms one. I heard that she recently took a beastkin child as her student, so she must be planning for it in the future. I do not know if that child was deserving, but truly, I wish she could've taken one of my sons instead.
"Is... Is Eria-san perchance a hero?" Marcus asked, without taking his eyes away from the figure of the only slender elf in the battlefield.
Marcus has always been too preoccupied in his time acting as the Knights' commander, it's not surprising he wouldn't notice the extend of Eria's skills. If only he investigated the situation in the guild, he might have gotten a clue. Since the beginning, Eria took care of all the hardest quests in the guild at an incredible pace. While she was doing her job quietly, without boasting and showing off, she does not actually try to hide her success. Her attitude was like that of a routine worker, she's simply nonchalantly doing her job that it's difficult for her to get noticed.
"I wonder about that..."
There's no doubt that Eria is in the realm of heroes. The problem was, she doesn't recognize her self as one. In fact, she doesn't even seem to care about the title or the wealth and attention that comes after it. She's an anomaly of a person.
If you have the power to become a hero, wouldn't you actively try to become one?
I do think that Eria has some traits fitting of a hero, otherwise, she wouldn't be doing what she was doing now. What she lacks was active interest and drive. Unlike the heroes of the current generation and the ones that came before them, she was not pursuing the enemy on her own will.
"It seems like they're retreating..."
"No, those ones seem to be acting on their own. I guess they became terrified after witnessing their leaders get easily defeated."
The warrior naga and that particularly large cyclops must be their leaders, while the chimera was some sort of hidden weapon. Since they got easily defeated, the underlings simply lost their will to fight. Without purpose, they begin to scatter around and seperate from the main army. They were like ants who lost their tracks.
"Kuku... All we can do now is stay back and watch this thing unfold..." I mumbled out loud.
A part of me is honestly disappointed in how this battle is turning out to be. There was a lot less action than expected, and even our ace was not breaking a sweat as she handles everything on her own.
Kuku... I don't think I'll even get the opportunity to unsheathe my sword.
A few panicking monsters were heading straight for the walls without purpose, but the knights and adventurers will be enough to deal with them. Unless they lower their guard too much, the least they would receive were scratches and tiny cuts.
"I felt relief at first, but all I'm feeling now is embarrassment..." Marcus grumbled.
"I feel the same, but it's best to feel thankful instead. We get to keep our town safe without casualties," I shrugged my shoulders and replied.
As the two of us exchanged casual words, a new opponent for Eria appeared from the last gathering of monsters left in the Dark army. It was a hulking three-meter-tall ogre with bloody crimson-colored skin. With one look, I can tell that it was far stronger than anything that came before it...
