The Drowned part 1

POV: Takeo

We continued to sit by the campfire, Rei gave me as much information on the pursuer as she got from her group.

"So this Kai fellow has a human appearance, and his main weapons are enchanted-duel tridents?" I recapped

"That's right! Whenever he throws his tridents, they instantly travel back to his location!" Rei responded as she finished the piece of steak I gave her.

Thoughts spread throughout my mind, tridents huh? Tridents in Minecraft acted kinda like swords but a little weaker, why use tridents at all? Because unlike swords they can be thrown as part of an attack, sure if you're locked in a 1v1 you should probably use a sword instead.

Tridents definitely have more versatile options, they also have different enchantments than swords do, for instance, you would put fire on a diamond sword, but on tridents, you would put lightning on it.

"Why does he want to kill otherworlders so badly anyway?" I asked

"Not sure, he never explained why, but judging by the fact that he kept calling them 'invasive species', he probably wants to just rid this world of them." Rei shrugged

"Ugh, that racist!"

"Maybe a different otherworlder killed or destroyed something he loved?"

"I don't think we ALL have to go for the ride with that problem!!!"

"Yeah, we might never know."

I let out a deep sigh, "Now I'm REALLY concerned, as long as this guy is still out there, he will just keep going with this homicide of his, I know everyone just wants to go back home, they don't want their lives to just end by this mass murderer!!!"

"Don't worry, my group and I are trying to stop him and-"

"No, WE are going to stop him!"

"You want to fight him?" Rei asked in a concerned tone

"Honestly, I don't, but I want to help! I know hundreds of different otherworlders have families back home, or what if he finds and kills Stephen!?!?"

"Stephen?"

"Oh yeah, he was someone close in my previous life, I lost him once I got here..."

"Close? Were you two dating or something?"

I shot up "W-What? No, we're just friends!" I said a bit embarrassed (Who the heck makes direct assumptions like that!?!?)

"Oh, I see..." Rei responded

"Umm well anyway," I tried to collect myself "If we're going up against something we don't know, we should make a gameplan in case we have no choice but to fight!

"Yeah, your right."

I started to clear my mind "Let's see... oh hey, want another piece of steak?" I offered

"Sure!" (she was just WAITING for me to ask that)

We continued eating, "Alright, so I collected some materials from the mines, I have a trap in mind!" I said while chewing, I got a stick and started to draw in the dirt, "Here is my plan!"

We spent around an hour working on the trap I came up with.

"Okay, that should do it!" I said dusting off my hands

"So this is some kind of lava trap?" Rei asked

"Yeah, you see I secretly set up some trip wire around here, it was set up to where whoever steps on it, will trigger the pistons and drop the target into a pool of lava underneath, it's foolproof!!!!"

"Well, if this doesn't work, I too have a plan."

"Oh really? What's that?" I asked

Rei proceeded to pull out a firework "When this is set off, my group with get over here as soon as possible!"

"Ah I see, it's like a signal flare, smart, always good to have a backup plan!"

"So, what now?" Rei asked

"We're gonna look for the guy now!"

"Are you sure that's a good idea?"

"It's me he wants right? We can't lure him here without giving him a reason!"

Rei let out a small sigh, "Yeah, you're right, We should probably start at the river, I heard he mostly strikes around water areas!"

"Got it, and if we run into him, we run back here got it?"

"Right!"

"Okay, let's roll!"

As we left the campsite I couldn't help but feel shaky, we were up against someone who was seriously trying to kill us, to be honest.

I was feeling uneasy, but if it means I'm helping others like me, then I have no choice. It's not like we're running in without a plan!

Rei looked in my direction and noticed my condition, she put her hand on my shoulder

"It's going to be okay Takeo! We might not even find this guy!"

I flashed a nervous smile "I guess you're right..."

We spent around an hour searching the area around us.

"I don't think we'll find him..." I said a bit allayed

"Maybe... but don't you notice something?"

"Notice what?"

"We're out in the open at night, and not a SINGLE hostile mob is around!" Rei said

"Yeah, but no monster corpses either."

"This was clearly caused by someone, I don't like the look of it!"

We continued to walk down the riverside, and after a few minutes, we saw something... BLOOD!?!?!? There was blood splattered around the grass by the river, soon afterward we noticed some corpses flowing in the River, they were corpses of monsters!!! Zombies, Skeletons, Creepers, spiders, you name it!

"Holy ******" I whispered

"I'd hate to say it but, we're getting close..." Rei said

"Is it... him?"

"Not guaranteed, it might just be a group of explorers or hunters, but why would they leave the bodies in the river without collecting their resources???"

"Maybe they're just xp hunting?" I made a pretty lame assumption

"Just keep your guard up, let's stay off the path for a little bit while we continue up."

I nod in agreement.

Shortly later I hear a scream in the distance:

"HELP!"

"You hear that?" I asked

"yeah, I think it came from up ahead, let's go!"

The voice... I have to help... but I don't know what to do... My body, why is it moving on its own, why am I running towards the call!?!?! I turned my head, Rei running behind me, I'm not alone... Let's do this!

We made it to the location we heard screaming from, there were 2 corps on the ground... My heart sank, we were too late! There was another man, no a monster.... seems more like a monster that collected a ton of xp and started to become human again.

It must have been Kai, he had cyan hair, a light grey zip-up hoodie (though it looks more like a windbreaker jacket than a jacket for the cold) Dark grey pants, black shoes, and a black face mask that went up to his nose.

This guy looked like he was around my age, he seemed completely human besides his eyes. Which were glowing like Teles', but they were glowing light blueish.

He pulled a glowing trident out of the corpse of a younger boy who looked like he was 14. I was enraged, these people looked completely innocent, and I know they were otherworlders like I was, and they were just KILLED JUST LIKE THAT!?!?!

"What did you do!!!!" I shouted at the man as we ran towards him

He slowly stood up after collecting their xp "What I'm doing is none of your concern, if anything I'm making this world a better place!"

"Tell me, did they attack you first?"

"Don't bother, he killed an otherworlder at our hideout remember, it doesn't matter who they are!" Rei told me

"Who do you think you are!!!!" I shouted back at the man who I think was Kai.

With both tridents cleaned and returned to his back, he turned around slowly facing us, and shouted,

"The name's Kai D. And I'm here to purify this world of those invasive species you call 'Otherworlders'!"

"Yeah bud, we kinda already know that part!" I said annoyed

"Why are you doing all this?" Rei asked

"If you had a chance to stop a war, wouldn't YOU do whatever it takes to prevent it?" Kai asked

"The ***** are you talking about!!!"

"The otherworlders might not be doing anything at this very moment, but the longer they stay around here, the closer the apocalypse will soon come!"

"Apocalypse? I've heard theories of the upcoming great war, but nothing about an apocalypse..." Rei replied

Kai took a pocket watch out, studied it, and put it back away "Look, it's 3 hours till sunrise, I got 2 more groups I need to find, I have no time for chit-chat!"

I can't believe my ears, this guy is not only admitting to his murder but TELLING us what he was about to do next!!! I don't care if he has a reason, I need to shut him down!!!!

He studied Rei and me for a couple of seconds, "What a strange pair you two are, a skeleton with another human?"

"What about it!"

"Any normal human from this world wouldn't trust a monster, especially once they gained a human appearance due to all the xp they collected, the only people who would even bother trusting a Demi monster at this point would be... an otherworlder!!!"

"And who's to say I'm actually a otherworlder or not, I mean you look human again too, wouldn't you guys see eye to eye at this point?" I said,

"There is only 1 monster I know that wields tridents, you're the drowned that the skeletons were talking about aren't you?" I asked Kai

Drowns are a type of zombie that spawns in the ocean, they are exactly like normal zombies except they can swim.

Sometimes they occasionally wield tridents, but the real question here was, what is a drowned doing THIS far from the ocean!?!?

Kai was starting to look impatient taking his foot, and quickly said, "Look, I'm a fair man, let THIS decide who you really are!" Kai then pulled out an enchanted stick and pointed it in my direction.

It started glowing once pointed at me, wait a minute, this looked like the stick that Richard used on me my first day in the village.

"Well, what do we have here? It seems you really ARE an otherworlder..."

"Shoot!" I whispered

Kai put the glowing stick away and grabbed one of his tridents

"Don't take this personally, I just have a job to do..."

I leaned toward Rei "We need to make our way back to camp!"

She nodded

We turned and started sprinting back to my campsite where I set my trap, I know I said we were searching for an hour, we didn't travel THAT far from camp.

I'd say if we run, we could get back in a couple of minutes, but nothing is saying Kai won't simply escort us over there!

Kai let out a small sigh "They always run..." he said as he shook his head and began to make way.
