The Lamb needs the Wolf

"Did you have something to say to me?"

I asked Shu while leaning on the fence, looking up at the sky from the school rooftop.

"Yeah. It's not a nice story though"

"Then I don't want to hear it"

"But you are the only one I can tell it to"

"Fine. I guess I owe you"

"You don't owe me anything"

:Sigh:

"So what's the story?"

Shu stood next to me and also looked up to the sky while leaning on the fence.

"Do you still smoke? I don't smell it on you today"

"I quit while I was in the detention center"

"Well done. I know it's hard"

"Pfft. How would you know you've never smoked"

"But my father did. He stank of smoke all the time"

That's right. That's what Kulu told me and that's why Shu didn't like the smoke smell.

"I'm sorry if it reminded you of your dad"

"Yeah I was so sick of it"

"So what's your story anyway?"

"My father's dead"

"I'm sorry to hear that"

"No. My mom saved me as you did"

Wait. What?

"My father was the same kind of guy... As the guy at that time. My mom found out and killed him for me"

My heart was breaking for this brat. I didn't know what to say.

"She's in jail. Won't be coming out for a long time"

"I see…."

"I live alone. In the same apartment as Kulu. My aunt is my guardian on paper but she's never there. She doesn't want to see me. Because she doesn't know why my mom did what she did. To her, I'm just a child of her crazy sister"

"Hey, you don't need to tell me all this"

"Boh"

"Yeah"

"Can you come live with me?"

I didn't know what to say.

Shu leaned his head on my arm.

"I don't know anybody else that I can live with. And I'm so scared to be alone"

I didn't know what to think. I couldn't really weigh the situation and judge how I should reply. But it was clear to me that I can't bear to imagine him being alone and scared.

"Shu"

"Yes…?"

"I have to warn you. I'm a wolf. You can't mix in with wolves. We live in a different kind of worlds"

"I know. But right now I need a wolf in my world"

"You are brave. And stupid"

"So it's a yes?"

"Yeah"
