I stopped working until I fully recover, and Shu started to go to school again. Two officers were assigned to watch over us. When Shu had to go out one of them accompanied him while the other one stayed nearby within quick reach.
I spent my time mostly just doing useless things. Like re-watching old MMA matches and boxing bouts, reading manga, and watching cute cat videos online.
Shu always came back home around six. The only errand I tasked him to do was to buy and bring home something to eat for dinner on his way back. Since neither of us was going to cook, we lived on cup noodles, lunch boxes, and other microwavable food. This was like bleeding out money as I no longer had income, but I had some saved from work before and my parents did leave me a decent sum when they went away.
Just after two weeks, my house was in a total mess from all the packages of instant food and clothes lying around that should have been washed by now. Shu had no concept of hanging his cloth, and neither did he put them into the laundry basket.
"Shu, you are turning my house into your house"
"Hmm?"
Shu was watching TV and eating potato chips on the couch.
"Look around. This place is a total mess now"
Shu wasn't listening and had his eyes fixed on the TV. Then he crumbled the empty potato chips package and just threw it in a random direction.
"That's it! You are out!"
That startled Shu and he finally looked my way.
"Huh? What?"
"Were you even listening?"
"Er… no…?"
"I'm kicking you out. Pack your stuff and leave tomorrow morning. I will call the detective"
"What are you saying? Why are you doing this?"
"You really were not listening. Just look around you. Don't just barge into people's lives and turn them upside down"
"Just because of the mess?"
"It's more than that. I just can't stand you being here. We are different breeds. This isn't gonna work"
"I get it…"
Shu sulked his way back to his room and I went back to mine. I'm sorry but all this really was just too much, and I think something changed inside me too since I almost died. I always felt paranoid and agitated. I just needed some peace. I wanted to be left alone.
That night, it was the same. I was laying on my bed with the lights out. It's been a few hours but I still couldn't sleep. I've always tried to avoid it as much as I can, but tonight felt extra bad, so I took the prescribed sleeping pills to fall asleep.
I think I woke up around 3 or 4 AM. I was laying on my side and waited a bit for the haziness to fade away. I wanted to go get something to drink. These pills always made my mouth so dry.
Then I suddenly felt something warm on my back.
Whoa - what is this, I instinctively turned and realized it was Shu. He looked like he was still sleeping. Probably just moving around while he's sleeping. Why the hell is he in my bed?
"Yo, Shu. Wake up"
I shook him by the shoulder a little.
He wasn't waking up though.
"Shu, wake up-"
Then I heard him whimper.
"Please don't…."
So he's not gonna leave?
Then Shu looked startled and shot up to sit on the bed, saying "No-No-"
Is he still dreaming?
"Hey, wake up-. It's just a dream. Wake up"
Then Shu embraced me I could feel the wet tears as his face pressed against my bare chest.
"Mom… mom…"
After that he started to snore a little - it was so soft that calling it snore felt a bit harsh -, rolled himself to lie on his back and kept on sleeping.
Man… this boy...
