"Hehe, alright... you can take the kid." The woman said, pointing at the small girl, standing by the door.
~
Did you know that laying in the trunk of a moving car if extremely uncomfortable? The 6 year old girl, having just been sold by her mother to 2 strange men, was now getting the honor to experience that.
After the adults exchanged money she was hauled outside and throw into the trunk of a dirty Toyota. She could hear the adults speaking, but of course couldn't understand a word uttered from their mouths.
Why is life so confusing?
Up in the front of the car, the tall male asked his companion, "So where we s'possed to take the kid? She aint anything special."
"I'm sure there's someone who'll take 'er. We can put up somethin on the black web." The one eared man replied.
"Kay."
The engine finally started, and the car began to move forward on the narrow dirt road. Constant bumps were making the kid feel as though she needed to hurl, yet she remained silent. Not moving an inch, other than when the car hit an especially large pothole, the girl laid down silently.
The car had been moving for a while and the 6 year old lost track of time, not that she tried to keep track anyways. After what seemed like forever, the car stopped and 2 doors could be heard opening and closing.
Again, voices floated through the late afternoon air.
"Guess we'll just wait and see who wants 'er." The one eared male spoke.
"Do ya wanna take 'er outta the trunk or just leave 'er in there?" The tall man questioned.
"Eh, we'll probably have a bid sometime tomorrow, so let's just leave 'er in there."
"Aight, fine with me. Didn't really feel like bringing 'er inside anyways."
The voices continued as they, moved away from the car, into the cabin that stood before them. The girl remained in the truck, wondering what would happen next.
Where is she?
Who are these people?
And what do they want from her?
Stuck in a dirty trunk. That was something new to the child.
So far away from her house. That was something new to the child.
All of these things... are confusing. But such is life, a confusing game that we all have to play.
The kid was in that truck for who knows how long. She had not been given food or water once, and even though her mother was neglectful, she usually had maybe half a slice of bread, or whatever was left over from what her mother had ate.
The hunger felt like daggers in her stomach. Stabbing her from the inside out, trying to make her throw up all of her internal organs. The kid curled up, holding her stomach, wincing from the pain.
Footsteps.
The girl jolted, hearing the padding of 2 sets of feet approach the vehicle that she had been trapped in. Straining her ears, the footsteps continued to come closer til they reached the car. Doors opened and slammed shut.
As the engine began to start, the young child remained curious, although tried her best to contain it. After all...
Curiosity killed the cat.
Another long car ride later~
The girl's back ached, after being on such a hard surface for so long. She felt the urge to sneeze constantly, as the dirt around the truck covered her clothes.
Soft tapping could be heard on the roof of the car. The car hadn't stopped, and the girl recognized the sound. Even though it had a distinctly different sound in the car, it reminded her of when water would fall from the sky back home.
She would have to make sure to put buckets around the house, as the roof leaked an excessive amount. However the rain did not get in the trunk, even though the child had braced herself to feel the cold pattering of water.
The soft sound soothed her. It was strange, usually it caused more yelling from her mother, yet here no one was yelling. A strange sense of calm washed over the child, like the rain outside.
Suddenly the car stopped and the child was apprehensive again. Fear of the unknown, it was pretty normal, yet paralyzingly terrifying.
Even more suddenly, the trunk opened, and the girl saw the outside world for the first time in about 24 hours.
A hand grabbed her wrist and roughly dragged her out of the trunk. The world outside looked too bright to comprehend, and the girls eyes were refusing to adjust to the sudden light.
More voices.
"Here ya go." The man who had grabbed her wrist was the taller one with the strange beard. He tossed her over to a woman.
The woman had a white lab coat on. Glasses could be seen on her face as she looked down at the 6 year old girl that was now directly in front of her.
As the child gazed at her, the woman turned away to continue talking to the 2 men. The girl took this as a chance to study her surroundings.
All around her were trees, so tall that they looked at though they pierced the sky. The child wondered in the trees poked holes in the sky, and that was why sometimes there were little lights up in the dark blue abyss above her head.
As the girl continued to look around, she completely blocked out the conversation that the 3 adults were having.
She peered behind the woman, to see a large but not tall white building. There were no windows, and the only door there seemed to be heavily guarded.
Curiosity.
She turned around to see the 2 men already back in the car that was scratched up so horribly, one would wonder if they got in an accident.
As soon as the car turned and drove away, the woman turned to face the child.
"Hello there, and welcome the CHW."
