Evelyn

With a chuckle and shake of head, he says. /"I know your annual profit report by heart and you don't even know what projects I've worked on. Not so fair Evelyn./"

We stare at each other and something passes between us like a cord of wire extending on both ends so that a connection can be made.

/"I do know a few,/" I confess.

/"I know,/" Warren whispers.

Other people join us and Warren breaks eye contact as he sweeps his gaze around the table. The green irises seem to linger on a man sitting across from us who has his eyes fixed on Warren.

I don't know who he is. In fact, I don't know anyone in this room.

/"Why did you start a wedding card printing company?/" Warren turns his head first, and then slowly glides his eyes back on my face.

The gesture shouldn't do anything to my body but it does. Beads of sweat line up at the base of my spine along with the heated storm that whirs in my belly.
