The walk back to Aunt Rose's house was quiet, the only sound being the soft rustling of leaves beneath their feet. Danisa and Akua walked side by side, their hands still touching, but no longer holding onto each other.
The air was filled with an unspoken understanding, a sense that something had shifted between them. Danisa couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he felt a sense of comfort, of ease, that he had never felt before.
As they approached the house, Aunt Rose was waiting for them on the porch, a warm smile on her face. "How was the festival?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Danisa and Akua exchanged a glance, and then Danisa spoke up, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "It was amazing, Aunt Rose! The fireworks, the music, the food... everything was just incredible!"
Aunt Rose chuckled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm so glad you two had a good time," she said, her voice warm and gentle.
As they settled in for the night, Danisa couldn't shake off the feeling that something had changed between him and Akua. He didn't know what the future held, but he knew that he was excited to find out.
