Viscounty Management 1

On the break of dawn of the third morning since the territory had a new lord,a thousand armed soldiers were standing in the training ground of the garrison. The training ground was in the inner bailey of the castle, which was below the Keep's hill. The sound of the castle bell indicating the break of dawn rang throughout the castle town.

Ser Roland Savry in his full plated white Armor stood in front of the army. The one thousand soldiers were the last of the two thousand and five hundreds soldiers of the garrison. It was less than the number of a standard regiment.

The garrison consist of two battalions of five hundreds, each battalion divided into five squadrons of a hundred, each squadron into five platoons of twenty and each platoon into four squads of five. That was the standard military organization of the Kingdom.

Ser Roland Savry was the commander of the garrison and was a Sky rank 3 warrior. He had only two warriors, both Earth rank 5 serving as the battalion commanders.

In the Daevera Continent, Warriors were talented people who could use Aura, also known as Mana or inner energy. There were five realm in the warrior system and each realms had rank in descending order from lowest to highest. Earth realm had five ranks, sky had four, heaven had three, Warmaster or battlemaster had two and Saint or War Saint had only one. The latter realms were very hard to acheive and only one out of ten thousand warrior could ever reach the master realm.

The soldiers were draped in various armors, most of them wearing helmets and mail armors. Their armors were their own, so was their weapons except the spears and bows, which were provided by the Lord.

Only few had plated armors. They were the officers or Men-at-arms, which mostly consisted of Earth Warriors. Ser Roland and Ser Oldrick were the only knights in the Castle.

There were fifty men of arms, one hundred Calvary, two hundred longbow archers, fifty crossbowmen and six hundred infantry soldiers, who were equip with spears and swords.

Ser Roland Savry click his heels together, bow his head and thump his chest with his right fist as a man in a riding outfit on a black warhorse approached them while being occupied by a wizened looking old man and followed by two carts pulled by draught horses behind them.

"All the soldiers are here, My Lord," Shout the Head Knight.

Hearing the shout, every soldiers click their heels together and saluted the Viscount in the military fashion.

"Good job,"Said Kain,"I have a job for you all. You will oversee it, Ser Roland.''

"What kind of work, My Lord?" asked Ser Roland.

"In the carts are bags made of sacks," Said Kain,"I want each soldier to take one sack bag and all to march to the empty stone quarry behind the castle village. The soldiers must fill their sacks with rocks and return before the four bell of the morning or else there won't be any for the late.''

"My Lord, I say this, respectfully," Ser Roland with a confused look and irritated voice,"They are soldiers not quarryman."

"Who said they are quarryman, Ser?" Said Kain, grinning a little,"This is training. Also, This is not a request. This is an order, the Lord's order." He made the last comment to challenge the Head-knight.

Ser Roland's face wrinkle up in anger for a few seconds before he sigh and said.

"As you command, My Lord," Said Ser Robert, giving the military salute again.

"Then I will leave you be, Ser," Said Kain,"I have a business to attend to."

"So, have you made up your mind, Tommy," Asked Kain, looking at the man in a wheelchair before him.

"I have thought about it and I will accept it, My Lord," Said Thomas,"But as before, I am not the most fit person for the post."

"What about the two of you?" asked Kain, looking at the two street urchins behind Thomas.

''I will be honoured to work at the castle, My Lord,'' Said Lia, giving a little bow.

"Wherever Lia goes, I go,"Said Harald.

"Good,"Said Kain,"Harald, you will be my attendant from now on and Lia, you will work as a maid. As for you, Tommy, you know your duty."

The reason why he employed the three of them were because all of them were talented in their own way. Tommy was a craftsman. Lia was clever for her age and street smart. Harald on the other hand was strong for his age. He was getting a craftsman, a future Soldier and a possible future strategist from them. Moreover, they were unbound to anyone but soon will be to him.

"Uncle, take the three of them back to the castle," Said Kain,"I will return by lunch."

"Understood, Young master," Said Robert, nodding his head.

By the time, Kain reach the training ground again, almost all of the soldiers of the garrison were back while the stragglers were dragging themselves. The empty quarry was only a few kilometres away from the castle and it took them four hours.

The hour bell rang out four times from one of the Keep's tower. Fortunately, all soldiers had entered the training ground before it ran. All of them were sweating and laying on the ground, heaving and breathing heavily.

After breakfast, which was bread, milk and vegetables stew, Kain gathered them again. He told them to carry their sacks. They did obedient. They lined up according to their units.

"1st battalion, give me a hundred push-ups," Shout Kain,"2nd battalion, give me a hundred squats."

Voices of dissents came out but Kain was unwavering but none dared to object directly.

"Silence,"Shouted Kain,"do as I say. I will reward the first ten to complete the set from each battalion and punish the last ten. Now get to it or else I will sent you all to the dungeon."
