Chapter 16

Listen to The Script-Never seen Anything (Quite Like This )

The evening couldn't get any better. The locals pass along and against us while Moonlight runs and plays by my side. Some women come along and place flowers on her ears while some make a bracelet out of them and put them on her arms. we keep walking.

We continue buying those flowers, fruits, juices and anything that makes her excited and taste them all. A woman, a very old one looks at us and smiles. Beside her stands a table of local pieces of jewellery.

Pairs of rings, bracelets, anklets and earrings. She looks exhausted. She must be looking at how old she could be and instead of resting or having a good time, she is here to earn her living. Moonlight quickly goes to the table. She takes a pair of black weaved ankle bracelets.

"Beautiful," Her eyes glow as she looks at them. My eyes land on a pair of rings. Pure gold rings. I take one of them and take a close look at it.

"These are pure," I look at the old lady, " and beautiful," Her eyes get watery as she looks at them, and her lips show a different emotion as they form beautiful curves.

"They belonged to my daughter and my son-in-law. They died out of love, so I vowed to myself to give this to a lovely couple before I die,"

"But they must be very special to you, my dear lady?"

"And I would like the legacy to continue. I would like to see a beautiful couple taking them," Moonlight and her look at each other.

"Those two lovers will be very lucky to have a such gift," I look down. I wish I was that lucky.

"My heart tells me I have found the two love birds," She breathes with her lips open. We look at each other.

"Us?"

"Yes, I have never seen a man looking at a woman the way this young man looks at you. He looks at you just as a gold dealer would look at pure gold that he wouldn't even want it to be sold." Am I that obvious? Sadly, I can't even deny it.

Everything in me will betray me if I try to have the guts to do that. My eyes want to constantly keep on looking at her. My lips want to kiss her. My hands want to hold her. My heart wants to keep her. Every single organ in me wants every single organ that she possesses.

"It will be a waste of such gold if you too deny each other," How can I tell you, old lady, that I met this woman when she was already not mine to want?

That I am sinning by keeping on wanting her and wanting to do things only her husband allowed her to do? Even if I tell you that, will you understand?

"Life is too short to do the right thing. It even gets shorter to let society choose what is right for you and what is not. That is what I would tell my 16 years old self, had I gotten a chance,"

As I said, she wouldn't understand even if I explain to her and that makes me wonder, Will I regret this much ever leaving all this behind?

"So please take it," She gets up from her seat and takes the two rings and places them in my hands. "Keep the legacy of these rings," She looks at both of us.

"Great-grandma," A chop chocolate-skinned blonde-haired runs the old lady, "Grandma. You said the people who will take those rings should get married. We should marry them now!" Her thin yet beautiful voice makes the old lady smile.

"Come on, granny," She jumps as she continues to beg her grandmother.

"Where should we get married then?" Moonlight looks at me, then the kid whose eyes show more light at the words of moonlight. Just what are you trying to do? Well, I know what you are trying to do but, why are you doing it?

"You aren't kidding are you?"

Moonlight shakes her head, smiling out of excitement.

"You look perfect in that white dress and those flowers on you," She says excitedly and takes the ankle bracelets Moonlight was holding and puts them on her. "Perfect," She gives both thumbs up.

Other kids gather around as the little girl takes Moonlight's hand while she takes mine and takes us to this round wooden gazebo surrounded by a beautiful clear view of the ocean.

My heart skips a pulse the moment even old people come to witness what is about to happen. people who seem to come from different places around the world

This is really happening. The little girl brings our hands together, making our eyes focus on us.

Her chest is pounding and I can feel slight trembles in her hands.

"It's okay," I whisper to her, "I am here for you, everything is alright," She bites her lips while nodding. Again, she looks at them. She breathes heavily and looks at me.

"Let's do this," She says, this time excited a little more.

"Is this what you want?" I ask her. She holds my hands even tighter and nods.

"If I could, forever," Another little boy kid comes with a small pillow and takes the rings from our hands. A girl who looks twelve or around that Steps closer. She is tall for her age I must say, she is as beautiful as any girl I have seen on this island.

"Shall we start?" She asks. Silence conquers the place.

"Love is what makes us live. Without love, nothing would have existed. God created us because of love. Our happiness is because of love. As love is the easiest feeling to feel, it is also the hardest one to fight for. No true love is easy. There will be storms someday, making the sky unclear. Only true love can overcome all that. So our dearest, before we tie your knots, forever promise that in the name of love, you will fight for each other and hold each other's hands no matter what happens between you two,"

I look at Moonlight. This can't happen. We can't accept these rings and this ceremony. We both know we can't do that. We both know this can't happen. But then this woman never fails to surprise me,

"Yes, I promise," She takes a huge breath. I promise to always fight for what we have, what we share and what we are about to create," She presses my hands harder. I have to do this, at least for her if not for these rings.

"Yes, I promise. I promise to love you forever and cherish every moment we spend together,"

"Ohhh," Everyone talks when I say my promise. Even I get surprised at how I sounded. So assuring and promising. This is all I can do for you, admitting that I love you.

"With the promises being said," The boy gives us the rings which we put on each other as she says, "I pronounce you as wife and husband,"

Everyone shouts. All hands clap and different sounds are produced. I look at these people, how they brought the dream I didn't even know I had come true is just hilarious. My heart is feeling something I never felt before and maybe will never feel again. The feelings that only Moonlights was able to activate.

"You may now kiss your bride," The girl declares, "But there are kids here!" A man shouts.

"Kiss your bride, Kiss your bride, Kiss your bride, Kiss your bride, Kiss your bride, " At some point, I wish I could open the earth and get inside. I never thought I'd have to kiss my woman in front of many people. I look at her with my hands placed on her cheeks. Slowly I lock my lips on hers.

"Woooow," Everyone claps hands, while as for me I am enjoying the sweet strawberry and pineapple taste of her lips, driving ourselves into our own little world. A world with no one inside but us, not even the people around us. A kiss that will remind me on this island, I was her husband.

And she was my wife.
