"Knox?" I whispered in the dark cell and pushed against his chest.
He didn't move and I could barely feel his breath on my forehead. His arms wrapped around me and his wings were underneath me and over both of us, locking us in.
My nose itched and I fought off a sneeze, not wanting to wake him if he was asleep.
The guards had beaten him severely. If he was human, he'd be dead or in a coma with internal bleeding and multiple injuries. And he'd handed most of them their asses.
Which made me wonder how lethal he really was. I mean, he'd had the same beam on him that had forced me to do what they wanted, plus the prisoner bands on his wrists. How much more damage could he have done to them if free?
Something in my chest seized. Freedom. That was something I had taken for granted before all of this. Never thought I'd be here... in a prison cell and in the arms of an angel-like alien.
