Chapter 12: Disbelieved and Dismissed

Underneath my heartbeat, I felt Megan's presence. It was like an echo. I pushed aside the thought of her hating me because of what I did and dressed in record time, quickly braiding my damp hair. I was going to carry the weight of what I did for the rest of my life.

Jasper had gone to my room and brought back a change of clothes for me. Since it was Saturday, I didn't have to wear the school uniform and my jeans never felt more amazing. When I exited Jasper and Kento's bathroom, Reed was standing next to the bed waiting for me.

"Where's Kento?" I asked.

"He and Jasper are chatting, so you're with me till then."

His tone suggested he knew everything about the kiss.

Despite my face burning, I straightened and marched toward the door. "Then I'm grabbing some of Jasper's extra-crispy bacon while we wait."

"Don't you care about what happened? How your magic leapt to someone and caused so much damage?"
