Chapter 51: Family Ties

My head pounded and my mouth was so dry I didn't want to open it to ask for water.

"You are awake," Kento said. "Welcome back."

He pressed a cool bottle in my hand and held my head up, bringing the liquid to my lips. I sipped the cool drink that tasted like it was full of electrolytes. After I drank until my stomach protested, I pulled away, cracking my eyes open.

"W-What happened?" I tried to sit up, but the room spun. "Where's Jasper - Reed?"

"Both are fine." Kento sat on the edge of the bed. "Jasper is in the infirmary, but Nurse Jenkins says he will make a full recovery after a few days of rest and fluids."

"And Reed?" I glanced around, not seeing him. It was just me and Kento in my dorm room.

"He was pretty banged up. Took the brunt of the attack and tried to shield you."

I shook my head. "But he's okay?"

"He's in the infirmary as well," his voice was soft, his gaze unflinching. "Megan was released a little while ago."
