Happy Birthday to you! A gentle voice echoed somewhere. Happy Birthday to you! Another voice joined the first one. Happy Birthday, dear Willow! The voices came closer to me. I opened my eyes and saw both of my parents standing right beside my bed with a cake and two lit candles with numbers one and six, singing Happy Birthday to me.
A smile spread across my lips as I sat up on my bed. It was still an early morning, because the sun hadn't risen yet and the candles brightened my room a little.
''Happy Birthday to you!'' Parents finished singing and moved the cake closer to my face.
''Make a wish!'' Dad said.
I closed my eyes and thought of something I really want. A quick tear slipped down my cheeks, as I blew out the candles. Then I noticed that they both had put on their work clothes already which meant that it's another early morning for both of them.
''Yay!'' Mom clapped her hands together and they both gave me a big hug. ''Okay, dear, we'll see you after school! Dad has got to leave early for the office and I have a meeting. I really tried to cancel but my boss said it's not possible!'' She sat down and held both of my hands.
''It's okay, really,'' I tried not to show the little disappointment I had. ''I sort of knew already, you both are not in your pj's.''
''So sorry, dear.'' Dad sighed. ''But after school is our time - we can get milkshakes and binge watch your favorite movies.''
I laughed. ''Thanks.''

''Happy 16th birthday, Wills!'' Lily gave me a big hug. She handed me a box, wrapped in a golden paper with a note on the top.
''Thank you!'' I squealed. Lily was dancing around me all month asking for a gift to give me. I said that everything will work.
''So, what are your plans for today?''
''Nothing much.'' Then I told Lily about the plans my dad had in mind.
''It's so cute that your parents still treat you like twelve year old.'' Lily exhaled.
''Only on birthdays.'' I said, and we both walked in the direction of our class.
''Best wishes for you!'' A guy came out of our classroom. I recognized him, his name is Kevin and he's in science club I attended last year.
''Thanks!'' I said.
The rest of the day went like others, except more people wished me Happy birthday. I was okay with the fact that not everybody knew that today was my birthday. I think that it's more easy that way.
''Don't you want somewhere deep down a party? I mean, drinking milkshakes and binge watching TV isn't the best way how to spend sixteenth birthday! You turn sixteen only once!''
''No, I'm okay with that.'' Besides, even if I wanted a party, I couldn't have it, because my parents seemed so excited about their idea, I just couldn't bail on them. Yes, dad's idea wasn't something ideal, but they tried, and that's all that matters.
''Alright, what ever you say.''
