Deeper into the rabbit hole

Cael opened his storage book and leafed through pages. After a minute of searching—he didn't have a bookmark for that one—he pulled a spare pair of Sending Amulets out of it. Then he looked at the deer-monster.

"Hmm… Although you have more mana than the cat, I'm unsure if you can use it much. But the amulets are some of the simplest magic items. Just pour a bit of mana in it, and think the things you want to say."

Cael offered an amulet to the deer-monster. Confirming the idea that it was understanding them, the deer lifted a foreleg and carefully picked it with two parts of the star-like hoof like with pincers.

The cat meowed again, louder, and made a circle around the deer-monster. The deer-monster responded with a harsh exclamation that resembled a word, but barely. Then it turned to Cael and nodded again.

"If this works, you have my respect," Ginevra muttered.

"You speak like I don't have it already."
