Cael fell behind, and soon enough. The forest was a stranger place than it appeared from outside. The mana of the trees flowed in mesmerizing patterns, scrambling Cael's senses. He had a hard time feeling the exact locations of living creatures.
Janus ran ahead and soon Cael couldn't sense him, either. Which would've been alright if he knew where to find any beasts. A dozen minutes of running after Cael was sure that he was moving in circles.
Now he understood what the next hurdle Janus had prepared for him was. Mana sense wasn't enough to not get lost in this forest, not to mention find anything in here. All Cael met were weak beasts that ran away from him as he approached.
He drained blood out of a few, but the amount of mana—Blood Points—in it was barely worth the bother.
