Chapter 5: Adventure into the Inner Circle of the Dachong Mountain

Returning to her bed, Yang Lan'er yawned and saw her two babies sleeping soundly. She smiled and cuddled them before falling asleep herself.

After a good night's sleep, she awoke early the next morning to find her babies still soundly sleeping. With great care not to disturb them, she carefully slipped out of bed, taking in a deep breath of the crisp morning air. As she gazed out the window, she marveled at the beauty of the Ancient world around her. It was a peaceful and serene moment, one she knew she would cherish for a long time to come.

Yang Lan'er then went to the kitchen and filled a bucket with water from her space before washing up and drinking a bowl of sweet well water on an empty stomach. Drinking water on an empty stomach in the morning can help clear the digestive system.

She peeled and cut some mountain yam, put them in a pot with water, and slowly cooked them over a fire. The delicious aroma then filled the room.

"Wake up, my babies!" she called out, gently touching the twins' faces and noses. They murmured in response and nuzzled her hand before opening their beautiful eyes. Their cuteness really made her heart melt.

"Mama," they said with a lazy voice as they woke up. It sounded so sweet to her ears.

Yang Laner smiled and kissed their cheeks, saying softly, "Come on, darlings, wake up and let's have our breakfast."

After breakfast, Yang Laner smiled and told her children, "Darlings, Mama is going to take a walk in the mountains today. You must be good and not go outside, okay?"

"Okay, Mama. Please come back soon," replied the older child.

The younger one lowered his head and rubbed his clothes, grudgingly replying with an "okay."

Carrying her bamboo basket and a bow and arrow, which used to belong to Tan Anjun, she left the house. She didn't know the mountain environment well enough to bring her sons along, so she planned to go deeper into the mountains alone.

On the way, she avoided the villagers from afar. If they saw her and invited her to go to the mountain with them, she didn't know whether to go with them or take her sons. Neither option was appropriate.

Half an hour later, she arrived at the spot where she discovered the mountain yam she dug yesterday. She cut a stick and ventured deeper into the mountain.

The inner circle or the deapest parts of the Dachong mountains were seldom visited by people all year round. Looking into the distance, towering trees appeared one after another, growing lush and dense, blocking the line of sight. Sunlight shone like golden sand, penetrating through layers of branches and leaves and falling on the dry branches and fallen leaves on the ground.

Yang Lan'er walked while vigilantly paying attention to her surroundings. She found many medicinal materials, including precious ones, and dug them all up and threw them into her space. She planned to partition a piece of land in her space and specialize in growing medicinal herbs.

Yang Lan'er drank some water and heard rustling behind her. She quietly turned around and saw a gray rabbit emerging from the bushes not far away.

She picked up a stone, took aim, and threw it fiercely. The rabbit flailed its four legs until it heavenly fell to the ground, unable to get up."

With a smile on her face, Yang Lan'er joyfully ran over to the rabbit and lifted its plump leg. She then took a vine, tied up its legs, and tossed it into the bamboo thicket.

Continuing on her way, Yang Lan'er managed to catch two more wild chickens, which took about half an hour to do so in the dense forest. Suddenly, she emerged into a low-lying shrub land where she discovered a large patch of densely packed ferns covering most of the hillside. The ferns displayed a mixture of dark purple and bright green colors, which made them look thick and enticing.

As someone who had often undergone wilderness training in major mountain forests, she was naturally familiar with these things. Yang Lan'er was overjoyed and began to pick the fresh and tender ferns while thinking about how to make them delicious.

It's important to know that she used to frequently go to the major mountain forests for intensive wilderness training, so she was naturally extremely familiar with these things.

Yang Lan'er was overjoyed as she began picking fresh ferns. She wondered how to cook them to make them delicious. She decided to blanch them in boiling water and then soak them in cold water for a while. They could be eaten cold or stir-fried. If she fried them with bacon, she would add some chili and garlic. She couldn't help but salivate at the thought.

Yang Laner picked up her pace and when her bamboo basket became full, she put some of the ferns into her storage space where the passage of time was stopped. She didn't have to worry about the ferns rotting if they couldn't be eaten all at once. In her free time, she could sun-dry them for storage. In the autumn and winter seasons, she could soak them and stew them with meat. The dried ferns would absorb the oil from the meat broth, making them extremely delicious!

After a long while, she finally finished picking this patch. She stood up straight and exhaled a deep breath. She looked at the sky and realized that it was already past noon.

She quickly picked up her backpack and started walking back. As she walked into the forest, she heard rustling sounds. Yang Lan'er quickly ducked behind a large tree. After a short while, she heard the sound of heavy breathing.

Peeking out from behind the tree, Yang Lan'er smiled. It was a fully grown wild boar. She quietly took out her bow, strung an arrow, and aimed at the boar's eyes. With a "whoosh," the boar was killed instantly. It was clean and neat! With a "thump," the boar fell to the ground.

She kicked it it to check and saw that the arrow had hit its eye. She was very pleased with her archery skills.

She then put the wild boar she successfully caught into her space and continued walking back. As she passed by a small mountain spring, the one that she found yesterday, she took out a wild chicken and lazily peeled off its skin and cleaned its insides. She didn't like the hassle of doing it at home. Yang Lan'er never ate the skin or internal organs of chickens, ducks or fish, even during this dry season.

Yang Lan'er arrived safely at the foot of the mountain without any major incidents. Upon her return home, it was already late afternoon.

As she walked through the courtyard, she heard the laughter of Bao'er and Bei'er, and her heart skipped a beat. Who could have come to her home?
