Chapter 16

As the sun sets in the west, the evening sky is colorful. Back at the inn, the waiter saw Yang Lan'er come in from outside and warmly greeted her.

He wiped the chair with a cloth and invited Yang Lan'er to sit down. Then he poured her a cup of tea and placed it on the table. He flattered, "Madam Yang, you must be tired from just coming back. Have a drink to refresh yourself."

Yang Lan'er looked at the clever waiter and lightly laughed, "Is my brother out or in the room?"

"My brother is in the room, resting. I didn't want to disturb him. Madam Yang, would you like to dine in the lobby or in your room? I'll prepare it for you. Hehe!" The waiter chuckled, thinking to himself that even though these two people were dressed plainly, they had a remarkable bearing, especially the one in front of him. In this year of disaster, most villagers couldn't even afford a meal, let alone game meat.

They not only caught game meat but also sold the leftovers. They must have skills. Who knows, he might need their help in the future? It wouldn't hurt to establish a good relationship with them now. Hmm, that's right, the waiter thought smugly to himself: there are fewer and fewer waiters with foresight like him. Hehe!

Yang Laner glanced at the innkeeper, who was standing next to the table lost in thought, his face contorting with different expressions. She didn't know what he was thinking.

Shaking her head helplessly, Yang Laner took a sip of tea and placed the cup down. She got up and strolled upstairs, instructing the innkeeper behind her, "Please make some food and deliver it to the guest rooms at mealtime."

"Okay," the innkeeper responded quickly after a moment of hesitation.

Upstairs, Yang Laner entered her own room and looked around, but didn't see the innkeeper. She lay down on the bed, intending to rest for a while, but before she knew it, she dozed off.

She didn't know how long she slept for, but she was awoken by a knocking sound on the door. Yang Laner rubbed her sleepy eyes and sat up, saying in a groggy voice, "Come in!"

Opening the door, she saw that it was the innkeeper. She nodded at him and said, "Good morning."

Yang Cunzhi looked at his younger sister, who had sleepy eyes and disheveled hair. Even though it was getting dark outside, she still thought it was "early"? He sighed deeply and said, "Lan'er, the waiter will bring up dinner soon. You should get yourself ready and come to my room later to eat."

Yang Lan'er nodded and closed the door tightly behind her. She quickly washed up and put on her clothes. She felt satisfied when she saw the fabrics and food piled up in the space's lobby. She left the space contentedly.

After finishing dinner with her second brother Yang Cunzhi, Yang Lan'er took a sip of tea and said to him, "Brother, I want to go to the county government tomorrow to buy that valley. What do you think?"

Yang Cunzhi was surprised and didn't know how to answer his little sister.

He thought about it carefully. The valley was fertile, flat, and seemed safe. But it was deep in the mountains. If they bought the land, they would have to build a house. Then the problem arose of how to transport the bricks and tiles there. Would they have to make them themselves? But no one in their family knew how to do that. How would they build the house and furniture?

Yang Cunzhi slapped his thigh and said, "Oh my! My little sister! Buying that valley comes with so many problems. How do you plan to deal with them?"

Yang Lan'er tapped the table and smiled, "Brother, I just like the beautiful scenery of that valley. It's secluded in the mountains and surrounded by nature. When I discovered such a paradise, how could I let it go?"

After hearing his sister's reasoning, Yang Cunzhi was also somewhat intrigued. However, he still worried about the difficulties of building a house. "Lan'er, your idea is to build a farm there. How will we transport the bricks and tiles?"

Yang Lan'er smiled and said, "Brother, don't worry. Mountain people have their ways. You'll see when the time comes."

"Alright, if you have a plan in mind, go ahead with it. Whatever decision you make, I'll support you." Yang Cunzhi's words made Yang Lan'er feel warm inside. It was nice to feel cared for like this.
