Volume 1 Chapter 3: Status Screen And Name
After selecting the vampire race, the AI's voice sounded.
[Vampire race picked. Calculating starting stats. Please wait for a moment.]
After waiting for a moment, I heard the AI's voice again.
[Basic stats calculated. You can now view your stats.]
After hearing that, I opened my status menu.
[Name: N/A]
[Race: Vampire]
[Title/s: N/A]
[Level: 1]
[HP: 20/20]
[MP: 10/10]
[STA: 10/10]
[STR: 15]
[DEF: 10]
[VIT: 20]
[AGI: 15]
[DEX :10]
[INT: 10]
[MAG: 10]
[MAGDEF: 10]
After confirming that my starting stats were satisfactory, I breathed a sigh of relief. I had chosen the vampire race randomly, relying on information gleaned from beta players whose details the admins had allowed to leak online. According to what I read, unlike other games where leveling up grants you status points, here, the only way to gain stats is by leveling up certain skills. The management had corroborated this information, adding a bit more: there exists an alternative method to gain stats.
Initially, individuals received information stating that stat points couldn't be gained through leveling. However, thanks to a timely announcement from the management and the assurance from beta players, it was confirmed that an alternative method existed to gain stats, albeit without specific details disclosed.
Upon seeing this announcement, I attempted to inquire with Vanessa for further information. Initially, she remained tight-lipped, offering no additional details. However, my persistence led her to provide a subtle hint: 'Similar to the real world, strength is acquired through training.'
Receiving this hint, I ceased pestering Vanessa. I realized that pushing for more information might lead her to breach a confidentiality agreement or she might have already breached it by offering even that subtle clue.
Following Vanessa's hint, it became apparent that to increase stats, particularly strength (STR), I needed to train similarly to how one would in the real world. However, while improving other stats seemed straightforward, such as the simpler methods available, I encountered difficulty when contemplating how to enhance more mystical or magical stats. It seemed unclear to me how to progress in these aspects.
Given my limited experience in playing MMORPG games, I'm not familiar with the meanings behind certain abbreviations used for stats. I expressed my confusion to the AI, seeking clarification about the significance of these abbreviations and their respective stats.
Alice: "Could you explain the meaning behind those abbreviations to me?"
[Ding! Request Granted]
After hearing that, I saw a screen appear in front of me with explanations:
HP - Represents how much damage you can endure before facing death.
MP - Indicates the number of spells or skills you can utilize.
STA - Signifies your capacity for actions. If it reaches zero, fatigue sets in; regenerate by eating or resting.
STR - Reflects the damage you can inflict and how much weight you can carry.
DEF - Denotes how much physical damage you can withstand or block.
VIT - Affects your HP and STA levels.
AGI - Determines your running speed and attack pace.
DEX - Indicates your proficiency in handling certain objects or weapons.
INT - Governs the speed of comprehension for magic and literature, increases magic damage, and boosts resistance to mental skills while reducing damage from mental attacks.
MAG - Governs the speed of spellcasting and influences your MP.
MAGDEF - Dictates your ability to block or resist magical attacks.
After spending a few minutes understanding the meanings behind those stats, I redirected my attention to my status screen. I noticed that the 'Name' column displayed 'N/A.' Curious, I tapped on the name column, prompting a floating keyboard to appear. Just as I was about to input my real name, a sudden warning notice popped up, preventing me from typing anything.
[Ding! When creating your online gaming name, please avoid using anything resembling your real name to safeguard your identity.]
After reading the announcement, I closed it promptly, understanding the caution against using my real name. Although I felt a bit lazy to come up with an alternate name, I acknowledged the risk of revealing my real identity in an online game, especially since we already used our actual appearances in the game. Consequently, I started contemplating various names to use, understanding the importance of choosing a safe alias.
Ah, in a fantasy setting, opting for Western names seems suitable. Also, it appears that beta players are continuing to use their old names.
[…Checking for duplicate names…The name is unavailable for use.]

I've been trying numerous names, but it seems everything I attempt has already been taken. Each time I try, a popup repeatedly appears, stating, 'Name is unavailable for use.' It's starting to become rather frustrating. I initially searched for famous vampire names, but alas, it appears those names are also unavailable. Sigh~~~.
After a moment of contemplation, I decided to give this a shot. I began typing the name I had thought of, unlike the ones I searched for online, taking a few seconds to do so.
[Please Input Name]
[Carmilla… checking for duplicate names… no duplicates. Name available for use.]
[Confirm Name]
[Yes]
[No]
After receiving confirmation that no one else is using the name Carmilla, I clicked on [Yes]. Although something popped up, I disregarded it, assuming it might be related to someone else possibly using the name I picked. Without further hesitation, I clicked the [Yes] button again.
[Ding! Name Carmilla is now being use]
Upon securing confirmation that the name Carmilla was now mine, I revisited the logs to inspect the warning that had appeared, a warning I definitely didn't ignore.
[Ding! Choose your name wisely, as once confirmed, you won't be able to change it without creating a new game account.]
Upon observing the warning note, I dismissed it as I had no plans to change my name in the near future. I was quite content and satisfied with the name Carmilla.
