Volume 2 Chapter 43: A Rogue Spell

But it should be impossible for Carmilla to notice her own mistake in her spellcasting process with her current skill level, no matter how talented she is. If she was unknowingly slowing down her own casting speed intentionally, or even if she had another reason for doing so, then it would be a coincidence, and a lucky one at that.

But they can only learn if Carmilla can successfully cast whatever spell she was currently attempting, as there are many variables that can change the final result. Based on her observation of Carmilla and her two clones, they only knew how to cast two offensive spells: the blood arrow and blood slash spells.

As her casting process was about to reach its end, she carefully took a glance towards Eve and Pepper, so as not to interrupt her casting progress.

She saw that the two were still with their eyes closed, and seeing this, she could only sigh inwardly.

"Sigh. This is all the time I can buy for you two, but whether you two can comprehend how to cast the blood slash spell is up to fate," she thought, just as a strange feeling suddenly washed over her.

She felt that something bad was about to happen, but it should be impossible for something bad to happen with both Tria and Vespera present. They were the only ones who could pose a danger to her given their current location and situation.

But Tria and Vespera wouldn't pose a harm to her since all of them are vampires, and she was currently a vampire too, so their relationship should be a lot closer.

So without further ado, she swung her arm as a gesture to launch the blood slash spell.

*Swoosh*

Halfway towards the target, the blood slash spell showed several signs of instability, which only Tria and Vespera noticed in Carmilla's spell.

At the same time as the blood slash spell was about to make contact with the target, Carmilla immediately coughed up some blood. The reason was that she made a mistake in casting the blood slash spell, and she was lucky that she only coughed up some blood, which was relatively light damage for making a mistake in casting a spell.

That's why it's very rare for someone to cast a spell based on their instinct alone, since a single mistake can lead to an unexpected outcome, especially in the middle of a fight or something important.

Right before Carmilla coughed up some blood, the blood slash spell started to lose its form. Firstly, some parts in the middle area of the spell turned back into mana and dissipated. The remaining parts of the spell began flying everywhere—some flew towards the ceiling, some towards the ground, and of course, some hit different parts of the wall where the target was. The blood slash spell lost control, so most of the rogue parts of the blood slash flew towards various parts of the room.

Eve and Pepper noticed the growing commotion caused by the increasing noise created by the rogue parts of the blood slash.

Intrigued by this, Eve and Pepper both decided to open their eyes to check the growing commotion. Upon opening their eyes, they instantly saw Carmilla on her knees with blood stains on the ground in front of her.

The two of them immediately started running towards Carmilla, trying to approach her to check her condition.

When suddenly a few stray parts of the blood slash spell flew towards the two of them.

Some of the rogue blood slash that flew towards the two narrowly passed by Carmilla's head, and luckily she was kneeling down, so the rogue blood slash just flew past her head.

The two of them sighed in relief when they saw that the rogue blood slash flying towards their direction just passed by Carmilla, who was weakly kneeling on the ground while also panting.

After that, the two of them braced themselves for the incoming attacks, but when it was a meter away from them, the rogue parts of the blood slash started to slow down and turn slowly back into mana.

The two of them were shocked to see this but ignored it since their top priority was to check Carmilla's current condition.

As they were about to approach and getting nearer to Carmilla, a few more rogue blood slashes started heading towards their direction.

Like the last time, they hurriedly assumed a defensive stance while trying to move towards to the left or to the right and ultimately ended up crouching on the ground instead. The fragments of the blood slash didn't give them much time to think, but just as before, when the rogue blood slash that was about to hit them entered within a meter range, it started to slowly lose its momentum. Eventually, it lost all of the infused mana and began to dissipate into nothingness, as if it had never been casted in the first place.

As the rogue blood slash unexpectedly dispersed back into mana, without much delay, Eve and Pepper continued to run towards Carmilla to help her and check on her current condition.

As the two of them got closer to Carmilla, more rogue blood slash started flying towards them. However, as soon as they came within a meter of the two, all the rogue blood slash that would have hit them suddenly slowed down and lost all the mana contained within them, dissipating like a mosquito sucking up blood.

At first, Eve and Pepper would assume a defensive position, but after experiencing this multiple times, they grew accustomed to it. Whenever a rogue blood slash approached them and entered a one-meter radius, it would invariably disperse back into mana, causing them no harm.

The same thing would happen when a rogue blood slash gets close to hitting either Carmilla, Tria, or Vespera.

Carmilla noticed Eve and Pepper running toward to her location, so she tried to stand up and reassure the two of them that she was fine. However, her body felt heavy and weak, making it difficult for her to speak. Each time she attempted to speak, her body tensed up, preventing her from communicating.

After failing several times to get up or speak, she gave up. She also wanted to lay down on the ground instead of kneeling on one knee.

Even though it was uncomfortable laying down on the ground, it would be much more comfortable for her knees that were supporting her whole body right now.
