Time to Talk

There was a flutter of gasps and murmured shock.

"I am not saying that your servants definitely cannot be trusted, only that you cannot know. And as a potential Queen of our land, you cannot risk being the weak link by which our enemies are able to strike at our King."

He stared at each of us again and when he looked at me it felt like he paused, his eyes piercing, as if they saw through my skin to what was underneath.

I met his gaze and held it because I knew I wasn't going to hurt David, or let anyone else do it either. But the man was unnerving. It was no wonder he was the Captain of all these soldiers.

"Please, take the utmost care with your words and actions in the coming days. And if you should hear or see anything suspicious, send for me personally immediately."

He nodded once, then turned and gestured for Mother Estow to take her place at the podium.
