Secrets – Part 3

David's head snapped up and he stared at me.

I swallowed hard. "I felt it too. I kept thinking about you even when… even when there were distractions. I looked for you and I was sad when you weren't there. I just… I didn't really believe… it seemed like this was a dream," I said, with more sincerity than he would ever understand. "I've been keeping myself protected because I was hurt and I'm scared and… and I don't always understand everything that's happening here. But it's the truth for me, too, David. I felt it too."

I sucked at the air, because it seemed too thick. David looked alarmed again.

"Zara, just breathe."

I shook my head. "It's… this is impossible. This can't be real!" My voice got too high and thin and I tried to whirl away from him, but as I let go, he caught my wrist again, stopping me from turning away.

"What's impossible, Zara? Tell me."
