The Chime

Memory hadn't done his kisses justice. David was a stunning kisser. He knew exactly when to deepen the kiss, and when to back off. He knew when to tease with his tongue, and when to savor me. And he knew when to back off, letting his lips hover just touching mine, just breathing into the moment, his fingers in my hair…

Dear Lord, was it possible that I was in love?

My entire body flinched and I shoved the thought away. It was impossible. I was in an impossible world, in love with an impossible man, and I didn't want it to end.

I still couldn't breathe right. Except… that was the best part.

Then, with a heady rush of breath, David pulled out of the kiss, but kept me in his arms, tipping his forehead against mine as we both caught our breaths.

He swallowed hard, then began to speak in a low, ragged voice. And if I hadn't already lost my heart I did when I heard his story.
