Here for You

My stomach actually clenched when David's eyes dropped from the door behind me, to meet mine and he smiled. He wrapped his arms around me and I leaned into him, but kept my head up to hold his eyes.

"Hi," I said softly.

"Hello."

"How are you doing?"

He grimaced. "Better, now that you're here."

I dropped my head against his broad chest and let go of the breath that had been tight in my chest since I'd walked in. "I was worried about you. Stark gave me a lecture on the way, about how you have responsibilities, and I'm not helping if I take too much of your time."

"Stark needs to learn to keep his mouth politely closed," David muttered. I loved the deep rumble of his voice in his chest under my ear.

I snorted. "It strikes me that you don't surround yourself with people who are… backwards about speaking up."
