~ DAVID ~
I entered the Advisor's council chambers the following afternoon with a certain heaviness to my step. Erik had added little more than caution. The intelligence he'd gathered was still too vague to be certain which of the Select the bearer believed was working against me. I barely slept for asking myself the questions.
Was my focus too narrow?
Did I improve safety by sifting out a greater number of the Select, or would that only bring my enemies closer?
I was still uncertain how to weed through the conflicting reports around Emory, the lack of clarity about the Physicists, and how to thwart the rumors about Zara. Because, though Erik recognized that he'd assumed Zara was the culprit given my interest in her, watching how the others responded to Emory and Lizbeth, he couldn't be sure.
