Walking hurriedly back to my quarters after I'd soothed the ruffled feathers and excitement of the announcement, Stark stomped along at my shoulder, livid.
We were surrounded by guards, though they spread out some as we entered the wider hallways, so my Captain was able to murmur to me without being overhead.
Dammit.
"I told you not to do it. You have lit a fuse, David!"
"You're overreacting. This is strategic. She's been validated—"
"It isn't enough! She needs to dominate! But you've removed all chance. For a man who claims his first concern is for her welfare, you act beyond rashly!" he growled.
I stopped walking and turned on him, my own anger igniting because this was a moment I wanted to celebrate, not sink once more into the mire of fear.
