~ DAVID ~
The moment she appeared I could finally breathe.
We'd ridden the horses hard to try and beat them here, but that meant I'd had to bathe quickly and dress here—which was trickier than I wanted to admit without a man to help me. Thank God Stark knew how to tie my cravat.
The moment he had it right, he stepped back and met my gaze. "She's here."
My stomach sang.
We hurried out to the garden, knowing Agatha would bring her straight there. But those minutes in which I could do nothing but wait made my stomach sick.
Not because I was scared of marrying her, but because somehow my heart was convinced something would happen to stop her from reaching me.
I almost ran across the bridges when it seemed like she was taking too long, but Stark caught my elbow and smiled. "Just breathe, David."
And then the moment finally arrived—and almost brought me to my knees.
