Losing Time

~ ZARA ~

Later, Ash and I sat on my couch, two big, open pizza boxes on the wide coffee table I'd pulled closer to our seats so we could eat sitting there.

The only seats I had for dining were two little chairs on either side of a tiny round table under the window in the kitchen. The idea of sitting in that tiny space with Ash felt way too intimate—plus I wasn't sure the chairs would hold up under his weight.

It was a good thing I'd gotten two pizzas. While I sat on one end of the couch with two slices out of a pizza, Ash sat in the middle, hunched over a second box and he'd almost finished the entire thing already. His eyes were closed and his face suffused with joy as he chewed in that way that only big guys can… like food is literally their reason for living.

"Oh my god, I've missed this so much," he groaned, his voice deep and rough.
