We kept talking. At some point things became easier. We could both breathe. We'd braced through the pain and our focus turned to the future, to the ways that we could work together.

David explained the plan in detail, and even though I hated the idea of deceiving people, I had at least accepted that this was a necessary part of power.

Sometimes what people believed to be true was far more important than the actual facts.

I hated the places that would take people like my father. Because in their hands it was justification to do whatever they pleased as a means to an end. But the more I listened to David and the more I realized that he hid information to keep people safe… the easier it became to think of being a part of this.
