I shook my head. "I have no need to. Beyond seeing another world—which I would enjoy—there's nothing to be gained. Everything I want is here."
My brother smiled knowingly. "It is a very strange world. No wonder Zara is so different."
I snorted, but left that comment alone. Erik looked back at the passageway door. I knew he had other things to do, and he was anxious to return to Emory. So I clapped him on the shoulder.
"Come back to the Palace in time for the baby. I might need you here if… I mean, we can't know what's going to happen or how it might affect us. I'll need you, Erik. I'm sorry, but… I'll need you and you'll need to look like me, just in case."
Any time I allowed myself to think of the birth my chest went tight. The risk to Zara. I'd been tempted to have her dream her way back over to her world so that she could be among their healers, which were apparently capable of incredible things, especially in childbirth.
