~ DAVID ~
I was still sitting at the council table, one arm resting on my knee, the other on the table, when the door out of the chamber banged closed and Raymond was returned to the dungeon under guard, though smiling at me over his shoulder and winking before he disappeared out of sight.
He knew I was still unsure, and he was enjoying it.
Fucking cunt.
But in his wake I didn't find any peace. I'd known the risk when I decided to speak with him. But if I was honest with myself, I didn't question what he'd said. It had been too easy for him to say. He hadn't been lying. He'd just been enjoying giving me answers I didn't want to hear.
With him and the guards gone the room was echoing and silent. I was suddenly uncomfortable… and exhausted.
Zara was probably done with Mardie by now. I should go to her. Make certain that the babies were okay, and find out how I might help her sleep more so she could rest better.
But I didn't move.
