Layla walked down the hallway to her room. The same usual environment, the same paintings on the wall, and the same treatment by the attendants of her. Ignoring her as if she didn't exist.
She halted in front of the stairs. Turning her head, she took a glance at the corridor. The corridor that leads to Jane's and Henni's room. Her mind debated whether she should go visit them or not. But then she realized that if anyone saw her continuing communication with them and reporting it back to her father, it might work against her.
She turned on her heels and walked upstairs, with a disheartened expression.
She promised her father she learned her lesson and wouldn't repeat her mistakes. And if someone saw her visiting them, they would for sure report to her father for his favor. After all those conversations today, an error like that would certainly make Layla mad. Moreover, she at least learned one thing from her previous experience: walls do have ears. She needed to exercise extra caution in a house full of people who were just waiting for her to slip up.
She opened the door to her room. It was quiet except for the occasional singing of crickets. She went inside and plopped onto the bed. Her body felt heavy, all muscles in her body were aching badly. Though most of the work was not done by her, she still felt this tired.
Her gaze shifted to the ceiling. She felt certain that today's situation would not be resolved easily. With her father's big ego, he wouldn't let it slide. She did manipulate Fred's remarks to her advantage but she doesn't care. He had it coming.
The only problem right now was if someone clarifies the misunderstanding Layla created. Because if she would have told her father what happened then he wouldn't have cared at all since it didn't involve him at all. She somehow needed to involve his name. Hopefully, no one clear up the misunderstanding.
And tomorrow will be a sight to behold if all goes according to her plan.
Layla smirked. Tomorrow will be interesting.
She intentionally called in the maid in her father's office, to show them her father still cared for her. Though it was fake care, the expression on the maid's face told her her plan worked. And by now it must have spread throughout this place.
She recalled the maid's expression of surprise at being given instructions by the Lord's neglected daughter. But they can't disobey Layla when he was present in the room with her. She will gradually restore her tarnished reputation inside this household.
She was confident that Fred would be punished, sending the message to others to not mess with Layla. But it would be difficult if Emily or her stepmother steps in to save Fred. And that would be troublesome.
Her stepmother.
Layla needs to get rid of her. It would be tough to move around freely in this mansion with her there. Moreover, her stepmother would also ruin any chance she had of regaining her position in her home. as it was her stepmother who created the rumor that Layla's father had abandoned her.
But her father liked that woman. No, rather that spineless coward can't live without her. He requires her input on every decision because he is incapable of doing anything correctly.
So her father has a 50/50 likelihood of taking her advice. All she could do was wait for tomorrow.
Layla turned to her side snuggling against the soft pillow. And if she rose in this household, her friends' lives would also be improved. Nobody would mistreat them. Maybe Henni could get her favorite coconut cookies, whenever she wanted.
The thought of the two individuals brought a smile to her face. The only people who cared for her enough to get hurt because of her and still not blame Layla. Her close friends.
…Friends…
'Are we friends?'
A pair of soft golden eyes flashed in Layla's mind along with the writing on the ground and her smile vanished.
That girl, Sebi. Although Sebi didn't give Layla a bad vibe, Layla felt like something was off about that girl. Like Layla was missing something. Something that was in open sight.
Even though she had no acquaintances and was a new employee, the maid recognized Layla's name. From whom did she hear it? Did someone tell her to keep an eye on Layla? If that's the case, why was she placed so far from the main house?
Maybe Sebi heard it from someone else, a simple answer. But her heart refuses to believe such simple reasoning.
The maid was giving her some weird vibes. She should avoid the maid. And as Layla said before, they won't cross paths again, and if they do, it will only be occasionally.
Well, it's pointless to worry about such trivial things. Because she had something big tomorrow. If everything goes as planned, she will become more respected in the household, and things will start to improve. The likelihood of her plan failing, though, was slim, therefore she was confident of her plan working out perfectly.
Layla grinned, tomorrow will be an eventful day.
