A True Friend

Erin sat at a table beside the window.

The coffee shop was warm and there was chill music playing. Friends sat and laughed with one another.

Couples sat holding hands.

The rain poured outside and the streets were a sea of umbrellas.

She ordered a cafe latte and started to type on her laptop.

Erin was glad to get out of the house.

The apartment was so small and cramped. She had been upset with her dad recently.

She didn't want to have a fight with him but he was making it hard.

So irresponsible. Erin was tired of always being the parent in the relationship.

...

Erin finished her assignments and sent her e-mails.

She checked the time; it was 7:30pm.

I'll stay for another hour she thought.

Plus she wasn't in a rush to go home. Her dad and Lihua were in a dark, candle lit apartment alone.

Maybe they were having some romantic time. Yuck!

Erin decided to call Lily,

Ring, ring.

"Heyyyy" said Lily cheerfully.
