9 You're Not my Type

On Lina's way out of the school, she lugged a heavy bag full of test papers.

Usually she didn't like to bring her work home with her, but today was so busy that she didn't even have a chance to do any grading.

"Have a nice weekend Lina!" said Principal Shi Xiaoli.

Lina bowed politely to her, "Thank you principal."

Principal Shi was a kind woman who always supported Lina. She was the one who hired her three years ago after Lina had graduated from university and Lina always felt indebted to her.

...

As Lina made her way down the stairs of the grand entrance she was stopped by a tall suited figure.

"Miss Liang," he said.

Lina frowned slightly seeing the slightly familiar face, but she couldn't quite remember him. She paused before asking, "Uhh... Do I know you?"

He smiled and straightened his tie, taking a wallet out of the inner pocket of his suit jacket.

Lina's eyes grew wide when she saw the police badge and read the name, ' Officer Yin Jie'

She froze in her place and looked around, "Officer Yin, Why are you here? I thought that you sorted the misunderstanding last night?"

He nodded and placed his badge back in his pocket, "Yes, I came to see if you are alright. I know my colleagues can be a bit much sometimes... but it's clear that you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Lina smiled with relief, "Yeah... I'm fine. Honestly Officer, it's not necessary to check up on me. Everything is good."

She bowed respectfully to the man and began walking away, but he quickly joined her side.

"How do you plan on getting home?"

"I take the subway." she said flashing him a doubtful look as he followed behind her.

"Let me drive you today, you won't get into any trouble with me." he smirked with a cheeky eyebrow raise.

Lina stopped and read the man's face. He was a young man, in his twenties, tall and slim, dressed in a smart black suit. He wasn't strikingly handsome and he had a silly smile stuck on his lips, but he was persistent like a puppy that follows their owner everywhere.

"Fine, you can drive me home today... but that's the last time." she sighed.

He grinned and led her to the parking lot on the school campus.

Lina stopped abruptly when she saw the police vehicle.

Officer Yin looked at her, she stood frozen with a pale face.

He chuckled and opened the passenger side, "Don't worry, you won't be riding in the back this time."

Lina gulped and smiled nervously as she sat down in the passenger seat. She placed her bag by her feet and removed her bulky jacket, she looked around at the buttons, radio and indimidating objects in the car.

Lina started to feel like she may actually have a phobia of police cars.

She noticed a gun strapped to his belt as he slid into the driver's seat and the sight made her gasp audibly.

Officer Yin noticed her fearful expression, and turned to face her with a slight frown.

He leaned over her body and buckled the seatbelt, "Safety first." he smirked.

Lina nodded and clutched the seatbelt, and pressed her knees together tightly when he took off and started to drive.

"So do you always take the subway?" he asked with his eyes on the road.

She nodded, "Yeah..."

"And what about your friend? Doesn't he also work at the school? Why doesn't he drive you home?"

Lina avoided looking at the officer and kept her eyes on the road, "Uh... that was our first date, so we aren't really serious."

Officer Yin's eyebrows raised, "Your first date? Do you always make out on the first date?"

Lina turned to face him looking offended, "Is this an interrogation? You ask a lot of questions."

---

He laughed and swerved quickly to the right, causing her to grasp tighter onto her seat.

He bit his lip and watched her slim legs, recalling the sight of her transparent underwear from the previous night.

"Okay Lina, then why don't you ask me a question?"

---

Lina rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, "Fine, how old are you?"

"Twenty-four."

Lina let out a small laugh.

"That's funny?" he said with a curious expression.

"No.." she smiled, "It's just that I am older than you."

"Yes, I'm aware... I took your details last night." he said through a clenched jaw.

Lina bit her lip and hid her smile; she sat up straight and slightly more confident, "Okay, how did you get your title at such a young age? Those other officers reported to you and you have your own office."

He smiled, "You're observant."

"My father is the chief, so I can pretty much do what I want."

Lina nodded silently.

They began to approach the Haidian district and Lina started to gather her bag and coat.

"Right here," she said pointing to a gray, gloomy apartment block.

He stopped the car and got out; opening the door for her.

"Thanks," she said as she pulled on her large coat.

It was getting dark and Lina spotted from the corner of her eye the neon sign for Yanlin's store. That meant that he was probably watching her from across the road.

"Okay thanks Officer Yin," she said quickly, patting his arm and attempting to push him towards his car.

He stared at her arm and took her hand, "Miss Liang, I will collect you tomorrow night for dinner."

"What?" Lina choked and pulled her hand back.

Is this guy crazy?

"Uhh... I'm sorry, but I'm busy tomorrow night."

"Fine, the next day." he insisted with crossed arms and a frown on his baby-face.

Lina rubbed her forehead and sighed, "I'm sorry Officer, but you're not my type."

Officer Yin gulped, "Oh."

He straightened his tie and stood up straight, "Fine then."

Lina exhaled a stifled breath when she saw the police car drive away slowly. She pretended to walk towards the apartment, but when she was sure that Yin Jie's car had disappeared she quickly changed direction and headed straight for Yanlin's mobile phone store.
