56 Keep it Quiet

Lina bit her nails as she lay on the bed with Julie snuggled up to her.

She picked up the remote and pressed pause on the movie, and then rolled the young girl off her arm.

She slipped off the bed and covered Julie with the gold-colored satin quilt.

She was fast asleep, exhausted from travelling and probably jet-lagged.

Lina tried sleeping too, but instead tossed and turned. She checked her cellphone for the umpteenth time, and spied the dark room from the balcony.

His light was still off, he hadn't returned. It was almost midnight.

What kind of business dinner lasts until midnight? she thought.

She took another packet of crackers from the mini-bar and sat on the sofa, watching the balcony and chewing anxiously on the snacks.

A horrible feeling built in the pit of her stomach that she couldn't explain.

It wasn't that she wanted him for herself, but she didn't want him to be with anyone else either.

And that woman! Was she his type?
