Lina sat on a bench overlooking an open area filled with picnicking couples, friends playing sports and children laughing.

Julie sat beside Lina swiping through pictures on her phone that she and Lina had taken that day.

The girls had enjoyed a day in the sun, and the vitamin D was a much needed distraction from Lina's busy thoughts.

She replied to some messages from her brother and asked about her dad.

Lina looked out at the busy New York skyline and admired the tall buildings.

While it was beautiful, she had begun to miss Beijing. Not because it was necessarily better, but because she had always imagined getting a home there and finally settling down.
