"Anand Mehta?" Amal Mehta called him in a low voice to make him laugh a little. With a nod, he said, "Unfortunately, my mom didn't change my surname."
These words hit Amal hard. He knew what Anand actually meant. Actually he deserved to hear all these. But still it's his son, maybe they didn't spend too much time together, he loved him with all of his life.
"Anand, listen, I know I don't have any words to say sorry. But still I'm saying. Tell me what I can do for you, to prove I'm guilty." He sighed a little.
"Such a businessman you are." Anand mocked, "Do one thing, give me back my mom. After all she was the only one in my life. Can you do that?" He looked straight into his father's eyes.
"Anand, that's....." He didn't know what to say.
"Impossible, right? It's not my fault that you're feeling guilty or sad. But it's your fault why my mom died. It's your fault why me and mom suffered, it's your fault, why Avinash and Asha didn't get their mom beside. I am not here to make you guilt free or to forgive you. And I'm leaving. Forget that you have any son named Anand as you kept forgetting." He didn't waste any time to get into Mohit's car. He guestered Mohit to start the car as it was hard for him to stay calm anymore.
Mohit understood what Anand was suffering. So he thought to distract, "How did you know Ronita Malik and Mohan Malik are siblings?"
Anand curved his lips a little, "Thanks to you. You didn't notice the little droplet locket on her collarbone, I did. I found the same was on Mohan." He smirked at Mohit.
"You remember you designed it two years ago specifically for brother's day. Dri also gifted me one then. So it just caught my attention. I was not sure at first. But co incidence are really rare. So I asked Mitali to manage the selling record of it. And found it in Mohan Malik's name. Then after tracing the details, I found that's the assistant Mohan." He explained everything. Mohit was wondering how could a person be that observant. The droplet locket was really so tiny to notice. Mohit understood why Anand was called Police.
Suddenly Mohit pulled the break with Maya's call. He couldn't stay with her much. He still had office works pending. So he just stayed in her house for a night. Unfortunately he didn't meet Maya's husband or child as they were in Kolkata. Maya was busy with cases to go.
"Yes, Di." He didn't know why she called.
"Don't go back now. Amal Mehta is transferring property share in Anand's name." She informed which made Mohit more tensed. Talking was okay, but this would enrage Anand more.
"Can't we just leave?" He asked again
"No. Take him here." After ending the call , Mohit looked at him tensed.
"What happened?" Anand was curious.
"Let's go to di's chamber."
.
.
Maya was observing Anand all the time. After a long time, she said, "He made those papers long ago. Or else how could I know about your identity."
"He wanted me to take his property?" Anand felt it was a mockery to his whole existence. That man never cared how he survived and now showing off his money. Hypocrite!
"Seems like it. I won't comment. That's your family issue." Though Maya found Amal had a soft corner for Anand, she didn't want to say that. Because she knew nothing about his family story.
"Can I transfer it to someone's name?" Anand always had some solutions.
"You can. That's in your name." She nodded.
"Then make papers stating I'm dividing it equally into Asha and Avinash. After finishing these, call me. I will come or Mohit said you are going to Kolkata soon." He smiled faintly.
"You need to give a reason." She argued.
"Well, I'm a IPS officer. I don't have permission to have any business or something. I will be in trouble if I have any person works like that. I don't want to end up in jail. Government clause, you know." He smirked. He was feeling so relieved because of being a police. No way, he needed to take those things.
"Good reason." Maya muttered.
"Then we should leave now." He said and stood up.
"Mohit." Maya called softly.
Anand thought to give them a little privacy. So he politely said, "You two carry on. I am coming from washroom."
When he left the chamber, Maya hurriedly took Mohit in a bone crushing hug. She missed him a lot.
"Di." Mohit hugged back. She was crying nuzzling to his chest. He remembered in childhood, he used to do that if got hurt. Seeing her like this made him overwhelmed with emotions.
"Did I hurt you a lot?" She asked softly.
"Di you didn't hurt me. You punished me, for your anger on dad. You could contact with me after all. I missed you." He patted her head softly. He knew she behaved impulsive.
"Sorry. Can you forgive me?"She asked with expectations.
"Only in one condition, I need to meet your child. After all I'm his uncle." He kissed her forehead.
"Wait." She went to the cupboard and hurriedly took a piece of paper. After handing it, she smiled, "You will find them there, even my husband too."
"I think we need to go to Anand bhai." Mohit said and Maya nodded.
Outside the chamber, Anand lit up a cigarette. He was not a regular smoker but he thought he needed it now. Those pressure was too much for him.
"Baldev!!" out of nowhere he found a yelling sound which made him groan. It was Anantika. He hated this spoilt girl a lot.
Turning head, he noticed, Avinash, Asha and Avantika was coming towards him marching.
"You are their brother!!" She asked shocked pointing at Avinash and Asha. Anand didn't give attention to her words. Both of them came towards him and touched his feet. He smiled and hugged them a little. He didn't want to get weak. He couldn't go back from where he was.
"Bhai." Asha called softly, "Don't go."
"Yes, bhai. We found to after all these years. Mom was never with us. At least you stay." Anand's muscle tensed hearing about mom from Avinash. They were blaming her.
"You also know it was not mom's fault." He clenched his jaw.
"But she didn't care about us. She just left when we needed her most." Asha was crying. They also carved for mom's affection. She never came for them.
Anand didn't know what to say. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Mom suffered that much and these people were blaming her. It was true, a man is known by the company he keeps. They were with Amal Mehta so much days. No wonder they never tried to see the truth.
"If you think so, go and ask your dear father what happened all those years ago, why mom left and never came to meet. I don't think we have anything to talk." He gave them a stern look.
"But we missed mom." Avinash said again.
"Mom missed you too." He sighed. he didn't want to hurt anyone. But they were wrong about mom. Still they had reasons to say. But maybe they were better where they were. The never saw the real karma.
"Can't you stay?" Asha asked again.
"No." He denied.
"Not for Avantika too." Avinash argued.
Where did Avantika came from? Anand was confused. Did he had any reason to stay for Avantika?
"Avantika?" Anand frowned.
"She still didn't say she liked you. She even like you as a driver. She told me she wanted to propose you. But things turned so complicated." Asha informed. She always had a good relation with Avantika. So she knew it all.
Anand slapped his forehead with his plam. Now he knew why that girl was always curious about him. Why she always looked at him like this. But he didn't have time to this kind of things. Or maybe he didn't believe after what happened with his life. He didn't want to repeat the history anyhow.
With a sigh, he went towards Avantika. He didn't know what to say. But he needed to say something, "I was here to solve the case. I did it. This city gave me many things and even took away. I am afraid of the city. It was cruel to me."
"Listen Avantika, I know you are spoilt but you have a good heart. Don't waste it on me. I can't stay. I have a lot of works to do. I don't have time for myself." He patted her shoulder a little. She was standing there in daze. She didn't want to let him know at last. Because she knew it would hurt her. Seemed like Asha told everything.
"It's okay. I was just too childish to feel something like this." She said at last, "If you don't want to say then go back. Take care of yourself and.....bye." She smiled.
Maya and Mohit was looking at the family drama for so long. Mohit also understood her feelings for Anand. But that male chauvinist didn't even guess. He could notice about that small locket but missed the cute glances she gave. He was speechless.
"Save him, Mohit." Maya sympathetically looked at Anand.
"Bhai, we are gonna miss the flight!" Mohit yelled and dragged him to the car. Anand gave all of them a last glance but didn't say anything.
At the airport, Zara and Shovan was waiting for him. They handed him the papers of ending his mission and joining order to Kolkata police.
"It was good working with you." Anand smiled at them.
"Sir you were really amazing." Shovan sighed. He wanted to work with him more.
"Well, flight was announced. Let me go." He nodded both of them.
"Jai hind sir!" the saluted.
"Jai hind." anand muttered.
After getting into the flight, Anand looked outside the window. He came to this city with works and they were done. He would return empty hand as he came. The things happened in between would stay as a story, a memory.
"Bhai, I think Avantika is a good girl." Suddenly Mohit spoke.
"I met many good girls in previous missions too. I know I am handsome for girls to like me." He smirked at him.
Mohit was dumbfounded. How much proposes did he get in the whole life?
