She lied, hoping he didn't catch the word she almost blurted.

She heard him laugh "That's ok. Have

fun"

"Um OK"

After a few seconds of silence, she heard his deep breath followed by his soft voice "Sindhu.."

She hummed in response, not saying a

word when he added "I miss you too"

A goofy smile lit her face hearing him

and she didn't know what to revert

back. After what felt like an eternity, she finally asked "You do?"

"Yes. Now go back to your mom and

continue what you were doing"

"Right. Bye then"

After disconnecting the call, Karthik

resumed chopping vegetables. He

wished she isn't home until 7 PM so that it would give him enough time to do everything he wanted to. And luckily, that's exactly what happened.

He got a message from his mother-in-law at 5.45 PM that Sindhu started back and he checked to make sure everything's done.

Sindhu reached her house at 7.15 PM.
