Prologue

The night was dark as the sky cried out violently, the gusting wind blew violently accompanied by heavy rains that blanketed the entire sky making it impossible for anyone to see. The roads were filled with water, making the scene appear like a horror movie. It was in these times that many feared to step outside their houses as the lightning and thunder roars continued to cast it torment across the quiet city

"Please drive faster, she's failing to breathe"a woman spoke in a desperate tone as she cradled her helpless baby wrapped in a pink fluffy blanket in her arms, she was seated at the back seat coaxing her husband to drive as fast as he could but her already worried husband looked back at her and the baby and tightened his grip on the wheel. He hated himself for being a complete failure. His little daughter's life was endangered and there was nothing he could do other than hope the rains would stop, so they could reach the hospital safely but with each corner, they got to the rains even more making it hard for him to see the road clearly. He just happened to arrive from work tired and worn out only to find that his little girl who was just born a week ago had fallen ill. Not so long ago, the doctor said she was fine, but suddenly, she fell sick and now was fighting for her life which had been given to her just a week ago. Their daughter was the only child the heavens had blessed them with after many years of yearning for a child and now that they got one, something was threatening to happen to her

"W...we are almost there...keep calm my wife"he said with assurance, in this case he had to stay positive and strong for his wife for her was aware how emotional his wife was, a week ago, she was happy to be a mother, and now she was praying for her little girl to be alright

As the rains continued pouring the car came to a halt at the hospital entrance which was far away from their home,

"Quickly"the man said as he opened the car door and took out the baby in his arms and helped out his wife to get out of the car

"Doctor!"the woman shouted as they rushed inside the hospital only for two nurses and run to them and quickly to the child

"Please wait here, mam, please come with us, we need you to tell us everything"one nurse said as she gestured for the girl's father to stay back, and he nodded and coaxed for his wife to follow them, and she did

Time passed by as the man paced back and forth outside the room where his daughter was in and now joined by his wife who had come out after a few minutes, and she didn't look alright. Sitting on the bench waiting for the good news of her daughter to be alright, the girl's mother couldn't take it anymore as she walked to her husband to seek comfort for the agony she was going through. All her hope rested on the female doctor who had taken it upon herself to make sure her little baby would be fine

"Shh, she will be fine so don't worry"her husband assured her as he held her in his arms, both were each other's strength and through tough times they were likely to be there for each other. After another hour passed which seemed like years and the door opened only for the couple to rush to the doctor who seemed tired as if she had been performing some huge strength taking task

"Doctor...doctor how is my little girl, please tell me she's alright"the girl's mother said in a pleading voice as she looked for any assurance on the doctor's face, but her facial expression shattered all her hopes as she felt her knees weakness and if not for her husband holding her she would have passed out

"Please calm yourself"the black-haired doctor with pale like skin with a round face said as she sighed and looked at the two people who depended on her to save a precious life

"Doctor stop beating around the bush and tell us what's wrong with our girl"this time the girl's father said with some irritation to his voice

"There's nothing wrong with her...but..."the doctor said and the girl's mother loosened up as a faint smile appeared on her face so did her husband, however, seeing the serious expression on the doctor's face, her expressions turned serious for she sensed a 'but' in the doctors voice

"Please come with me, there's an urgent matter I need to discuss with you before I start her treatment"the doctor informed them and gestured them to follow her to her office, but the couple hesitated for a while wondering what was going on however they had no choice than to follow the doctor to her office if they wanted their little girl to be happy

The office was quiet as tension broke, not sure if the awkwardness would last a lifetime, but the girl's mother had fallen into a trance of thoughts as she pondered over what the doctor had just said. Never in her life did she imagine what she wanted the most why was given to her after so long would be taken away from her

"Please I need your response before it's too late, your daughter is no ordinary girl...if you agree to my demand, then I'll save her life but if you don't...then there's nothing I can do for you"he was no sweetness in the doctors voice as she spoke clearly she was like a devil sent to take away their child, but it was better than nothing, the girl's mother knew she would rather have her child for a little while than lose her completely, and hence she had no choice than to agree

"Y...yes...we'll do as you said please save our child"the woman said with sobs as she wiped her tears and looked straight in the doctor's eyes who smiled with delight

"Then I shall get to it"the doctor clapped twice and walked out of the office leaving the two parents shattered, the girl's father held his wife who couldn't stop crying knowing full well what they had done was more like selling their child to the devil

"S...she's my child Jack my child, my poor Eliza"the woman cried hysterically because for years to come she would forever regret the day she decided the fate of her precious daughter.
