Circles

Two weeks later

Jerome

I was seated on the couch in between two of my enforcers who looked tired and denied sleep.

Vincent looked worse, laying on the bed with his eyes closed.

Cara on the other hand just looked like she wanted someone dead. And I was frustrated.

"Seriously, I'm tired of going around in circles." Josh murmured, rubbing his eyes. "I swear, one more try and if we don't find her, I'm giving up."

I couldn't blame them, they were really trying.

"Rerun everything, there might be something we're missing". Cara said. "I mean how come we see the red dot on the tablet and then when we reach where it's supposed to be located there's nothing but a freaking corn maze!."

"I know right, and then when we walk past it, the blue light blinks saying we've walked away from the signal, I mean it's not like she could be living in a corn maze, and we didn't even see any bike, so how come the chip I put on the bike says its there." Josh added.

"Have we considered the fact that she might have known we were tracking her and is making us go on a goose chase?." Vincent said.

"No, I would have been alerted if she knew, the chip immediately sends information back if it's being tampered with." Josh replied.

"Maybe we should just give in to temptation and call Octavian, he might know what's wrong". Cara said.

"Does Octavian know anything about electronics?"  Vincent asked.

"No, but he might have an explanation". Cara replied.

Josh sighed, "he might just ask for something impossible again."

"Yeah, maybe he'll ask you to add more days to his Holiday ''. Said Brad as he walked in. "The new alpha of Moonstone pack accepted your invitation, they'll be here next week Thursday". he added.

"Glad that's done with, we should probably give up and call Octavian". Cara said.

I sighed, "call him." I told Vincent, Vincent nodded, bringing out his phone.

The phone rang for a minute and then stopped,Vincent dialed it again.

"Yeah," Octavian picked up, sounding out of breath.

"We need your help with something." I started. "Do you know the reason we keep going round in circles?."

"Yeah, hang on a second." I heard him move something. "Okay, explain."

I signaled Josh to do the explaining. "We located the tracker but when we got there it was a corn maze, so we thought maybe she abandoned the bike there, but when we looked there was nothing, and then we tried moving forward but the tracker kept taking us back to the maze."

"Did you see anybody in the surroundings, like a house or cabin or something?."

"No, it was just a maze in the middle of nowhere surrounded by thick trees and flowers."

"A maze in the middle of nowhere?." Octavian muttered. "Did you see any corn?."

"Yeah, plenty of them."

"What color were they?."

"I don't know, green?." Josh replied.

"That's not exactly an answer." Octavian said.

"I think it was golden yellow". Vincent said.

"No, I'm perfectly sure it was brown". Brad said.

Pete, who had been in the toilet, came in. "I'm totally sure it was gray." He put in.

"Well I saw white." I said.

"Wow, and you guys didn't think it was weird?." Octavian said, I knew he was making fun of us, but I said nothing.

"It was in the middle of nowhere, and it's not like we went there because of the corn." Pete argued.

"So the color of the corn is Grey?." Octavian said, sarcasm clear in his voice.

"Get to the point Octavian!." I snapped.

"I'd say it's a glamor, you all saw what the glamor wanted you to see". Said Octavian

"So it's not actually a maze?." I asked, baffled.

"Yeah, she could have been laughing her head off seeing you all good round the maze, she could have been right in front of you laughing". Octavian said with a smile in his voice.

"Wow, that's….that's….wow," Josh said. "So it definitely means the tracker was showing the truth, the bike was definitely there."

"How do we see past the glamor?" I asked.

"What are you willing to give me?." Octavian asked.

"Is he really your son?." Brad asked Cara.

"I don't even know." Cara replied.

"Mum!". Octavian gasped.

"What do you want?!." I asked in anger.

"I don't want something now, you'll owe me a favor." Octavian replied.

"Wow, that's a first". Brad murmured.

"Yeah, but only God knows what kind of favor he'll ask in the future". Pete added.

"Accepted, so…?" I asked.

"A Grenade should do the trick, just throw it at the field and see what happens."

"Just a grenade?". Vincent asked.

"Sure sucker, you got better ideas". Octavian replied, causing Vincent to glare at the phone.

"So that's settled then, we blow the god damned corn maze!." Brad said.

I sighed, never thought knowing your mate is somewhere close and not being able to connect with her was this much trouble. I felt tired and frustrated. Well at least I know I won't have to defend her against possible competitions, she had shown she knew how to take care of herself.

Even though I've been the alpha of my pack for almost seventy years,I knew not to lay your guard down because everybody wants the position and I didn't just become The alpha because my father was one, I earned it, Challenges, tests and all. I was challenged for at least twenty seven times —after I became alpha— by different men who thought they were better.

The council often reminded me who my father was and told me to follow in his footsteps no matter how difficult it seemed. I never knew my mother because she died giving birth to me, but my father never let it affect my upbringing.

And one of the things he's taught me is that, there's nothing like being bonded with your fated mate.
