just a little more time

I looked down at Hailey who Vincent was lifting up and then back to Jerome.

His face now blank with no hint of emotion, his face was expressionless. I had never seen Jerome this way and it scared me, so when he took a step towards me I took one back.

"Go ahead, run, because that's all you fucking know how to do." He wasn't shouting nor was his voice low, it was between the two so it carried around the room.

When he took another step I also took one back.

"You're a coward, a selfish fucking spoilt brat, a person who thinks first about themselves not caring how it affects the others.

"G'head and run, cause that's all you fucking know how to do."

"I'm not pregnant." I whispered, I wasn't sure who I was trying to convince, myself or Jerome.

Jerome nodded like he understood me but I knew better. "Of course," he agreed. "You own your body so you'll know when you're pregnant or not."

"She can't." Koala butted in, all serious and gloomy. "We'll only know for sure when she shifts to her own true form, and not the forms that came with being an Hikrata." He finished.

Jerome hadn't even spared him a glance.

"Go ahead Danica, change, let's see if you're pregnant or not, or you don't want to carry my child?" He taunted, "are you afraid if it turns out true you'll have a reason to stay, you'll have something that connects you to me."

"We should really focus on what exactly happened." I tried to divert his attention.

"Trying to change the topic are we? Are you that scared of it being true that you're pregnant? Are you thinking of how much it would affect you?"

"Shut up!" I screamed, frustrated to no end, why always me? "You don't know anything, how can I take care of a kid if I don't even know how to take care if myself!?"

Jerome bristled, and I was glad, even though it wasn't a look I wanted him to have at this moment.

"You think I'm going to abandon my child, like your family did to you?"

I flinched, for a moment a look of guilt crossed his face but it was gone before I could be sure of it.

"I'm not you Danica." I whimpered, "I'm not your mother, I'm not your father, I'm not your relation, I'm your mate, I'm the Alpha of this fucking pack. I won't run away from my responsibilities just because they scare me. and since you're my mate, you shouldn't run from your responsibilities to the pack also, you don't have to think about what happened in your past, it's true that those who fail to learn from history tend to repeat it, but it doesn't say you should let it define your life."

"it's not defining my life." I growled.

"it is, you're scared something is going to go wrong, what if you're really pregnant? would our child end up like you, I can assure you it won't, cause I won't abandon my child and you won't either, we're both going to take care of our child, and you'll be present Danica, because you're going to want to give your child the kind of love, protection, life you didn't have, you're going to be a good mother who thinks about her child first and how your decisions affect their life."
