Chapter 68

Creamy pov

I cleaned Zyair’s body, while on his bed. There hasn’t been any improvement except he keeps deteriorating. We’ve got a few days left to have it all settled out. Or I didn’t wanna think about what would happen if we couldn’t make it. It would be worse than anything else. If not by anyone I would be the one who would suffer more from it than anyone. That’s why I had to make it works even if we had a slim chance of it happening.

“A lot has happened in just a few days and I think more are still gonna happen. Do you remember the talk we had with Franco the other time? If they would stay or leave. If they were gonna stay we’d talk about the possibility of joining the pack together... you remember now right.”

I wiped his hand and dropped them by his side.

“..they’re staying.” I smiled and took the other hand while moving to the side.

“So, we’ll have to come up with a new name for the pack, the new year would be a great one with the new beginning we talked about. You’ve to see it happen. So you better get up from the bed.”

I dropped the hand carefully at his side and covered him with the duvet before sitting down again.

“It’s good news isn’t it?”

I did this every time I was in his room and I sleeps here too right on the couch, just in case anything happened. Who knows if he could wake at night? I’d to be here.

And I didn’t want him to be bored either. And still, yet I was hoping. I was praying for that miracle.

I sniffed.

I told myself I wasn’t gonna cry. And I had to keep doing that.

“Everything would be back to normal. Trust me. I’ll make it work. And Mark came back with a lamp. As we had predicted, he died. The seer is working on the lamp now. It’s a stepping stone now.

“And lastly, I’ve been suspicious of some old couple in the pack who’s probably her parents. You see, a lot has happened.”

I held his hand, I didn’t even want to let go of it, his hands were warm now since I had washed them with some warm water.

“It’s all gonna work out.”

“Creamy!” I groaned a banged came through the door.

“That’s how busy I’m these days. But I’ve to do the work. You better wake up and continue doing what you do. With the stress, I might end up dying..” I feigned annoyance as I walked towards the door. Wondering who it was again that was disturbing me at this moment.

“Creamy!”

“I’m coming,” I yelled back and opened the door. The face of the Cartel popped out.

I rolled my eyes at him.

“You look tired.”

“Of course I’m tired.”

“There’s no time, you need to come with me.”

“I thought you were gonna let me off after you asked me that!” I groaned. Why did he ask when he knew he was still gonna ask me to leave with him?

“I wanted to be nice.”

“Nice my ass.”

“Jason is dead.”

I gave him the boring look.

“You were expecting it?”

I nodded but he wasn’t supposed to be dead now.

“This wasn’t a death from the poison.”

“What?” I looked up. My thoughts came up right after he said that.

“The physician said something else. You need to see for yourself. C’mon.”

“You just lost your brother, you should be crying.”

He gave me a stare. I shrugged my shoulders.

“Don’t get started with me.”

I chuckled and shut the door behind me. We walked towards the dungeon where he was with the physician.

“How is Zyair?”

“Same as he’d been.”

“He’d never be truly happy, and he was the one who deserved it more than anything.”

“He was happy with her.”

“He was happy with you too, that was something that had also got us hating on him. Preferring a stranger over his brothers.”

“Over here..!” The physician shouted. We jogged towards him. He was squatting beside his body of Jason. We surrounded him. Staring at his body.

“He wasn’t killed by the poison how true is that?”

“He was strangled with the bars. You can see the mark on his face and the fingers on his neck. A strong wolf did it. The dungeon wasn’t opened.”

I sighed.

“Someone was desperate to have him killed than us.”

I said that out loud it was just my thoughts.

“But who did it? What would be the reason to have him killed.”

“I did.” We turned when we heard the voice, the old couple came up. I stood up immediately when they approached me. I’d thought about them and how I was gonna make my approach and now they’re here my plan worked then.

“I’m Roger and this is my wife Anne.”

I nodded. Buy why did he kill Jason, what he got to do with this?

“Punished me for his death.”

“Why did you do it?”

“Because of what he did to yours.” He pulled his wife closer to himself. Her face was buried in his chest. They’d always been together, without a second apart. Was their love that strong?

“What did he do?” Because he’d got us interested in what he had to say. What did Jason do that we didn’t know about? Even Cartel too wanted to know.

“We gave birth to the curse.” He said.

He was Amaia's parent. My suspicion was right after all.

“Jason knew about it, when the other babies were killed, ours were nowhere to be found. Even when I lied about stillbirth and had disposed of the child. He didn’t believe us. He told me to take him to where I buried her.”

“Jason did say anything about that, why did he keep silent? And he was in no right to do that to you.” Cartel said. We would’ve probably asked Jason but he wasn’t here.

“So what did you do?”

“I couldn’t do it because there was no grave where I buried her. He threatened us that he would kill us, and he would find her and kill her. We became scared and pleaded with him but he won’t heed us. He separated my mate and me and had us tortured.”

“He’s a psycho,” I said.

“He did lose it, we never thought it was that worse, we all thought he’d changed.” Cartel added.

“We were hanging on his mercy for years. Until death started at the pack. Sorry, I had to kill him for what he did.” He bows his head.

“Good riddance.”

What was more important was that they were here. Her parents. Even if he came here to kill Jason it was all good.

“What’s your daughter's name?”

“Amaia. That was the name we gave her. We knew she would be alive. And now we would do anything to see her again.”

“Seems you didn’t have any child after her.”

“Before we’d her, it took us years and when we finally did, we couldn’t do anything to hurt her. It was the first child we were having after ten years.”

His mate sniffed. But didn’t lift her head.

“My mate became a shadow of herself after we lost her. She withdrew from everything and hardly make a conversation. And we couldn’t do anything to have her back.”

I pitied them, now I understand why she was always glued to him.

“We’ve asked the question so many times, why?” He blinked his eyes.

“..why was our child cursed? Why was it ours? Since then we couldn’t have another. Why was it ours?”

My eyes were glistening, I blinked the tears away. The physician was already crying. He was one of a kind, he couldn’t control his emotions. Sometimes I wonder how he became a physician.

“I’m sorry.” He sniffed and hugged his mate.

“Let’s have some tea.” I offered. I had to clear the emotions in the air.

Her parents were suffering too, not just her that had suffered. They too had gone through their worse.

****

I stare at Amaia, she was seated on the bed just staring into space but was listening to what I was saying, I couldn’t see her face and didn’t know what her emotions were like. I still didn’t know how I was gonna break the news of her father’s death to her. She loved him more than anything. We would take it to step by step. I’d have to deal with this first.

“...they came here because they were dying to see you. The daughter they lost for nineteen years. Give them a chance.”

“And who was the bastard that tortured them?” She asked. Staring at me with those pitiable eyes. My heart sunk.

“Dead.”

She looked away from me.

“I’m sure you’re curious, you might wanna know how you were born, I heard your dad turned into a midwife..”

“Really?” She chuckles slightly.

I pat her hair.

“They’re coming in..” I stood up and before I left I turned to her.

“.. and be a good girl.”
