CLARA

I fell into a deep slumber, with Anne still at my side. Then immediately I started dreaming. I dreamt that I was a small girl and someone was trying to wrest me from my playmates. A man who looked familiar was taking me away. I screamed and kicked but the man was so powerful that my efforts were all in vain.

Then as he dashed through the trees with his friends I managed to look at him closely. It was Beta Charles of the Riverine pack. I tried to cry, but my voice was muzzled.

My playmate Clive, I was not going to leave him, he was so good to me, always carrying me on his back, taking me to the pool to teach me swimming, and many more things that we did together.

At that moment I cried out to him, but there was no answer. I remembered that my brother could help me and cried out to him too.

Nothing.

Beta Charles was keeping a tight grip on me and the more I struggled the more the vice grip tightened as he sped through the thick forest.

Finally they got to the Riverine territory and went straight to the pack house. I was being presented to the Alpha, Alpha Derrick.

“Take her to one of the childless couples. And keep a keen eye on her." The Alpha ordered. I tried kicking and crying but none of that helped.

Then I woke up, sweating profusely, and Anne was still on my side. She was crying and I wondered why. I fell asleep again and the same dream occurred again, except this time I was being held in a dungeon.

My eyes snapped open.

Sunlight streamed from the windows of the dungeon. Why did I have that dream? I ask myself. I lay there, confusion swirling my mind, the other rogues were asleep and so were the guards, and Anne was gone.

My body burned. Fire coursed through my veins. I whimpered and squirmed. The pain kept increasing and I felt the urge to vomit. I started to cry, my sobs mixing in with my coughs and hiccups. I could hear the guards waking up and walking over to my cell, unlocking it.

"Hey hey, what's wrong with you?" A guard asked and placed a hand on my shoulder. I flinched, his hands were icy.

I just continued to cough and sob. Icy hands continued to grab at my skin. I flinched away every time. The burning increased and I let out a yelp.

"Amy what's happening?" I asked my wolf.

"I am trying to get the wolves bane out of your system. I am sorry about the pain but it is the only way that you are going to be able to heal " she said and I nodded to her and tried to deal with the pain.

"What's going on?" I heard Anne say. "Oh my god," she added. She must have noticed my condition. I hadn't seen her coming in

I was about to try to answer her, but I felt myself starting to vomit. Copper invaded my mouth, red gushes on the floor. Oh no.

"Oh my, hurry bring her to the hospital," Anne said and a pair of icy hands picked me up. I screamed as the heat and the ice clashed, and sparks of pain erupted.

I felt the person carrying me start to run. Every time iciness brushed my skin I screamed in agony. I felt blood dripping down my chin. I was placed on a bed, and I heard Anne walk over. She had on a lab coat, a surgical mask thingy, and a pair of latex gloves. Her eyes showed pain before glazing over. She must be mind linking the Doctor.

"Clara, do you know what is happening?" She asked.

"My wolf is try...trying to get the wolves bane out of my sys....system," I said, stumbling on some words. "Oh dear, there is nothing we can do to help the process but we can give you something for the pain," she said, running a hand through my hair.

I nodded, closing my eyes trying to get away from my pain. I looked up when I heard her come over to the gurney. She had a needle in her hand, she looked at me reassuringly before slowly injecting me with the fabulous medication that brought the amount of pain I felt down considerably. I smiled my thanks before drifting into the universe of dreams.

CLIVE

I entered the pack house and smiled, I was finally home. Pack members bowed as I passed and made my way towards Amos's room. I put a fake scowl on my face and barged in. Amos bolted out of bed, but on his way hopping out of bed his legs got tangled in the sheets and he fell face first on the floor. I burst out laughing and he just glared at me from his place on the floor.

"That was not cool man, not cool at all," he said and stood up, running a hand through his messy hair.

"I'm sorry. Okay?" I asked

"Yeah, yeah whatever," he replied and quickly threw on a pair of shorts and a shirt.

"Meet me in my office once you're done getting ready and bring the young rogues," I said and walked out.

The office was my father's before he stepped down from the Alpha position and gave it to me. It had pictures of my family around it. But on my desk there was one special picture. It was of Claret and me.

She was on my back holding the teddy bear I gave her for her second birthday. We both had giant grins on our faces. I ran my hand over the picture, before sitting down.

"Alpha here are the rogues," Amos said, putting his Beta demeanor in place.

Two children around the age of eight entered the room. They looked scared, and they were holding hands.

"Sit down," I said, softening my voice so they don't get more scared. "What are your names?" “Jake and Tracy," the boy answered still gripping the girl's hand.

I walked around and knelt in front of them.

"You don't have to worry, I am not going to hurt you. I am going to help you but first you have to tell me what caused you to trespass on my territory?"

"Our pack was attacked, by a group of hunters and rogues. The hunters had guns and other weapons that caused a lot of damage. My mommy and daddy were shot and killed," Tracy said and started to cry. Jake stood up and hugged her.

"You guys do not have to worry. No one attacks this pack you will be safe," I said and stood up.

They nodded and Tracy wiped her tears away. I grabbed some hidden candy from one of the drawers and walked back to them. I handed them both a piece of candy and they smiled.

"Thank you," Tracy said for both Jake and herself.

"You're welcome, I'll get my mother to bring you to the kitchen for some ice cream," I said before mind linking my mother.

She came in to the office and smiled down at the kids offering her hands for them to grab. They grabbed them, smiling at me before walking out. They would be great pack members.

The rest of the questioning went on and all the rogues were accepted into the pack. I sat back stifling a yawn.

God the life of an Alpha sure is tiring.

"Amos, bring in the last rogue," I say. I am regretting this questioning, whenever I hear this rogue's name I think of Claret.

"I'm sorry Clive, she is in the hospital right now. When she came she had severe wounds full of wolves bane and her wolf is trying to get rid of it," he said.

"I am going to go see her," I said, standing up.

"Clive, I wouldn't do that. She looks like Claret and I know more than anyone how much it hurts you to think about her," he said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"I am the Alpha, I have a duty to my pack to protect. But thank you for thinking about how I am feeling," I said, turning towards the door.

"My dad thinks it might be Claret, but she doesn't know it. It's like her memories were erased. My mother doesn't believe it," he said, looking down at the ground.

"It isn't Claret, she's dead and we all know it," I said, pain blooming in my chest. My eyes started to water.

"Did you feel her die? Did you feel her soul slip away from yours the day she went missing?" Amos asked urgently, he had tears in his eyes.

I froze in my spot. That day gave me nightmares and I didn't want to think that. "She's dead, Amos. I'm sorry,"

I walked out, wiping my eyes.

I made it to the hospital wing of the pack house and entered. Anne and the Doctor were in there sitting beside the bed of a girl I couldn't see yet.

"Alpha, please I don't think you should look at her," Anne said. Oh just like her son.

"I have already discussed this with your son. I am the Alpha. I have a duty to protect my pack, this rogue is endangering it," I growled.

"But Alpha, she is in terrible condition. She is malnourished and the wounds she has are not healing. If you can wait just a couple of days," Anne pleaded.

"No Anne. I mean no disrespect, but I have a job to do," I said.

"Just be quiet she is asleep," she said.

I walked into the room and towards the bed. I looked at the girl and almost fainted. Claret, no doubt.
