Let it go

Julian's POV

One of the major deals my mom brought to the company is worth millions if not more and surprisedly, Iona Carmen is the manager of the deal and therefore, she's the one I'll be dealing with. How ironic to know she's their representative right? I know what my mom is playing at and I can assure you it's not going to work.

She underestimates my devotion and feeling for Lena if she thinks I'm still in love with that gold digger. Lena might be rude and arrogant and sometimes cold, but she has proven to me times without a number that she isn't a gold digger. Whatever reason she had for rejecting me was solely on her ego. I got her an airline expecting her to jump at me in excitement or squeal at the extravagant gift instead I got a scowl on her face. She looked disturbed and angry.

Despite all my effort to persuade her, she rejected it and now she wants to lend it. How lucky I am to have a girl as special as her.

Such an industrious woman.

My heart swell when I saw her disoriented act when I presented the gift. I don't have to go overboard to please her. It's quite nice to be wanted for you and not for what you have. She doesn't say it but I can tell she loves me. I can tell by the way her heart pounds when I'm close to her and the way her body trembles when I touch her. She may not know it but she isn't the same Lena I met in that bar anymore.

" Leon, can we talk?" Iona's voice brings me from my trance. Fuck, I don't think I can spend a month without her.

" It's Mr.Leon to you Miss Carmen" I correct her with a scowl on my face.

" Huh... Mr... Are you mad at me? If you have something to say to me just get it over with" She rants staring down at me. Huh.

" No, but you do. I would have loved to hear it but it's so yesterday. Why are you here ?" She looks taken aback by my words. She drops her hands on her waist and grabs the file on my desk. She flips through the pages as if searching for something but I know she wasn't searching for anything. She might be a woman now she's still the same Iona I knew years ago.

Naive, gutless, and frightened.

" Why didn't you come after me? " As simple as her question is, I find myself regretting asking her to say her mind.

" When you learned I left, why didn't you come after me? you knew how much your mother hated me. What if she did something to me?" She accused my beloved mother as she has always done. I sat up straight locking my gaze on her. She blinks probably not expecting me to look up. That's not gonna work on me but looking at her now, does bring back memories.

Iona was the best thing that happened to me in my sophomore year, she was a scholarship student. We met in the most awkward ways; I was on my way to the gym class when I saw a group of girls forcing her to clean the tables, they went ahead throwing scraps at her, it wasn't my business but I had a sister and I couldn't watch them bully her. The next day, I found out she was Olivia's studying partner.

Unfortunately, Olivia had invited her over and that's how we clicked. Getting her to trust me wasn't easy because she had a rough childhood. It turns out her parents lived far away and she was punctilious about everything. I have never seen a girl so serious about the future as she was and eventually she became my future or so I thought.

Until my Mom came for a visit, Iona had complained about her right away but she didn't dare challenge her. She'd tried to win my Mom over but her background was something my mom considered.

Eventually, she lost her scholarship which I renewed, I had to lie to her cos she didn't need my help. Soon enough I graduated thus she moved in with me. Mom didn't like that but I always stood up for her until the day she disappeared.

At first, I thought mom must have done something to her until I had Edward trace her to Berlin alas she was living fine. That's when I noticed some of my credit cards were missing. I almost went crazy but I pulled through. Perhaps it's because I was young then and here she is demanding an explanation.

Memories of her disappearance and betrayal flooded in like a whirlwind which had my eyes blaring with rage. I had tried to forget about her yet here she is. Let's get it over with.

" I don't chase after girls. Especially gold diggers. Is that enough?" She blinks surprised suddenly getting all teary and sullen.

" I... Gold digger? Is that what I was to you? I tried to be the ideal woman for you. I tolerated your annoying mother and her abuse. Do you know why I left? .." na na na. I'm going to stop her there.

" Because you got what you wanted. I don't want to talk about this Iona. You have made your choice. That happened a long time ago. I'm proud of you for making the most of it. Let it go " she squints her eyes at me then her gaze moves to the ring on my finger. She keeps her gaze on it and for a moment there I wanted to apologize to her for breaking my promise to her but none of that will happen cos she did this. All I want is to close this deal and go home to my beautiful wife.

" You didn't look for me? I thought you loved me" she's getting on my nerves right now. Is she doing it on purpose cos she seems determined? Her figure looms over me leaning on my mahogany desk.

" Staring at you now. I'm glad I didn't. Get out of my sight. I have work to do" I tell her with emphasis by pointing to the door and then taking my seat. she sniffles getting all emotional on me. I wouldn't have accepted the deal if it wasn't worth millions of dollars. Mom is unto something diabolical.

" What happened to you, Leon?" She asks tearing up. Yeah, she's doing it on purpose cos she's aware of my dilemma with crying ladies.

" I'm sorry for leaving. Trust me I have a good reason for it. Leaving you wasn't my intention but your mom made a very convincing story. Her offer was enticing. I wanted to tell you, I did my best to reject her but she wouldn't leave me alone" Here we go again. That's what I love about Lena. She doesn't give excuses and she knows how to strike back. Gosh, I love that girl.

" I don't fucking care if my Mom bribed you. Stop the crocodile tears. It's not working" she hisses then leans forward with her boobs almost spilling out of her blouse. Iona is anything but a seductress.

What happened to her?

" I know you still love me. She's nothing compared to me" I chuckle imagining her saying so to my Lena. She'd break her nose if not more.

That girl is fascinating.

" Yeah, yet she's everything I want in a woman. Thank you for leaving. Thanks to you I married a goddess. It's the perfect gift " I smirk recalling the scowl on Lena's face when she mentioned Iona. Seriously she needs to see the girl she considers a threat.

" Oh yeah? We'll see" she pants, stands firmly, and turned around to leave but I pull her back by the arm, holding her firmly.

" Say that again," I say in a high-pitched voice that brings out the frightened little girl I know.

" I'm sorry Leon. I'm sorry" boring holes in her head, I push her hand away, slightly irritated that I touched her.

" Get out" She quickly scurries away without another word.

What a bitch!
