The night before

By eight o'clock, a day before the battle, everyone was ready for a night of food and chill, trying desperately to dispel the tension in the air and from their bodies. The evening was pleasant and so they gathered in the summer kitchen. There was a lull in the city and everything seemed calm and uneventful. The five gathered in the dining room and lined up around the large family table. Maggie had cooked a wonderful roast with vegetables, a large salad, fresh bread with butter and garlic, several types of tapas and a delicious cake for dessert. The room was filled with the incredible aroma of food and comfort. It was a wonderful evening and no one wanted it to end, knowing what was coming the next day.

- This calm before the storm makes me a little nervous - Maggie began - but it's nice to relax for an evening and enjoy delicious food and a glass of wine with friends - she said and raised her glass in greeting.
