Seth cleaned his bed and left his room with a tired look and bags under his eyes.
His parents’ house was relatively small, only having two rooms, a hallway, and a small kitchen. He could even hear his father’s snores coming through the thin wooden door of his room as he headed toward the kitchen.
Entering the kitchen, he found his mother cooking simple food on the stove. She didn’t even turn back as she said, “Seth, honey, can you wake up your father? The food is almost ready.”
Seth felt quite emotional hearing his mother’s voice after so long. Looking at her slightly hunched back and white hair threads, he spoke to the system.
‘This feeling emotional stuff is quite refreshing. Can you read the records and tell me what happened to my parents after I left for the academy in my past life?’
When he started his journey of becoming a God, Seth never came back home. He shut all his feelings and forced himself to thread forward, never looking back.
‘I see. I have already created a destruction source four years after entering the academy. I could have saved them….’
Seth took a moment to calm his troubled thought before making a promise to himself, ‘This time, you both won’t suffer because of your son’s stupid ideals. This time I will give you both a good long life. If you want money, you’ll have money. If you want power, you’ll have power. If you want eternal life, I’ll give you eternal life. Even if you want a throne each, I’ll give them to you.’
With that thought in mind, he left the room and headed toward the loud snoring noise. Entering his father’s room, he found the man sleeping on the side with saliva leaking from his mouth on the gray pillow under his head.
Sighing, he moved next to him and nudged him softly. His father frowned and tried to push back Seth’s hand, but after insisting for a few more seconds, he finally opened his eyes.
“Father, mom told me to call you to eat. It’s already morning.”
“Mmm,” Seth’s father grunted slowly and wiped the saliva from the corner of his mouth.
Lifting himself into a sitting position on the side of the bed, he said, “Tell her I’ll be right there.”
Seth nodded and walked back towards the door, only to be stopped by his father’s words from behind, “Seth, happy birthday.”
Seth closed the door with a smile and walked back into the kitchen. His mother had already set the table and sat down, cutting a cucumber into small pieces.
“Is your father coming?”
“Yeah, he said he’ll come in a minute,” Seth replied as he sat and stared at his mother.
She was a frail, fair-skinned woman with dark brown eyes, an angular face, small ears, and bushy eyebrows. Her long black hair was messy and full of thin white threads.
She wasn’t old, only 36, but her life was tough. Besides the household chores, she would also work the fields outside the village every summer day for a few bags of wheat.
In the winter, she would do menial jobs around the village for whatever she could get.
His father eventually came as well, and the family ate their breakfast.
The bread was hard to bite into, and the soup was meatless, but this was the best his family could do. Once everyone finished eating, his father prepared for work, and his mother cleaned the bowls.
Seth stood up, grabbed her shoulder, and said, “Mom, let me clean up here.”
His mother gave him a weird look and asked, “Who are you, and what did you do with my son?”
“How did you figure me out?” replied Seth with a surprised expression.
His mother chuckled and put down the bowl she was cleaning,
“Thank you, Seth. Mother will make you something sweet for your birthday tonight, but now I must help clean the snow from the trails,” she said as she wiped her hands on a piece of cloth and started walking outside.
“No need, mom,” said Seth as he continued washing the plates, but his mother ignored his words and left the kitchen.
He finished in around ten minutes. Once he was done with the plates and left alone at home, he walked back into his room and sat on the bed.
‘System, can you find a way for me to make some quick money from the historical records?’
‘Damn, that slipped my mind. Guess I can only wait until I finish making my sources or head to the nearby town.’
With that thought in mind, he asked the system to show him all the information available for any energy besides the destruction one.
He started reading it while absentmindedly cleaning the house, removing the snow from the courtyard, making a few paths, and even taking some time to make some firewood.
Despite having reached adulthood officially, none of his parents breached the subject of starting to work to earn a living. That was mainly the tradition in the village.
While children in the towns and cities of the kingdom were required to get jobs and start earning as soon as they reached adulthood, in the villages, they were allowed to laze around a few more years, maybe helping their parents around the house, doing some chores here and there.
When Seth’s mother returned around noon to cook for him, Seth asked the system to give him some information about life energy. He had no plans on learning life theory for himself, but he could use the knowledge to slowly manipulate the energy in the atmosphere to revitalize his parents’ bodies.
After preparing a warm meal and eating with her son, Seth’s mother left to do some more work, and Seth returned to chores around the house, focusing on learning life energy first.
In the evening, Seth’s mother kept her promise, the sweet smell of baking permeating the house. Sitting in his room, Seth could hear his parents’ bickering through the door.
His father was worried about wasting the flour on baking cakes so early into the winter, while his mother argued that only once a year was their son’s birthday.
Seth declined his mother’s offer for the same reason, but he couldn’t deny the warmth in his chest. It might have been a year since his parents last celebrated his birthday, but it has been eons for Seth.
After eating dinner with his parents and thanking them for all their efforts, even his father couldn’t be mad anymore. The three devoured the overly sweet cake together before returning to their rooms late in the evening.
After about a week or so, Seth had learned enough about life energy to manipulate it and started infusing it into his parents’ bodies at every opportunity.
As Seth returned to focus on his energy theory, his parents slowly became more energetic. The white patches of hair on their heads started growing back to their original color, the pain stemming from their hard physical work started fading, and even their wrinkled skin gained a youthful smoothness.
The strange phenomenon didn’t get unnoticed by the two, but neither of them thought Seth was the one behind it. After not figuring out the reason for their reversed aging, they took it as a strange but welcome occurrence and focused more on hiding the effects from other people in the village.
Seth’s understanding of his four fundamental energies reached the level he needed to create a source in just a month. However, he still delayed the process, taking care of things around the house while delving into more detailed knowledge.
With a chance to start over, he didn’t want to leave anything to chance and decided only to begin once he could ensure his sources were perfect.
He had no problems with destruction, being sure his knowledge of its concept was perfect, but he had never used or even focused too much on the other energy types.
Creation was a somewhat opposite concept to destruction, so learning creation theory was not complicated, but space and time were completely different.
The knowledge needed to understand their concepts differed utterly from destruction and creation, requiring Seth to spend much more time perfecting them.
For his lust and perception, Seth soon figured out his progress into those energies would also be problematic.
For perception, he needed to interact with many more people than present in their small village, while his lust source was a well of troubles on itself.
Creating a lust source in a village where everyone knew each other was impossible since he needed to have intercourse with a woman. Even if he somehow found someone willing to volunteer for his need, his parents finding out about it was also a big problem. A woman’s virtue was essential in the village, and Seth was sure not to get away from the responsibility of marrying the girl if his parents ever found out.
All these problems left Seth with no choice but to delay the creation process until he left the village.
‘System, can you start some simulations on the source creation process? I need to ensure they have no imperfections.’
‘That’s fine. Could you do it for the other four sources? Also, if impurities are in the mix, find the mistake and restart the simulation.’
“That’s fine. I still have time,” muttered Seth, jumping down from the branch he was standing on and landing on the battered snow below.
Knowing his parents were coming home soon, Seth decided to light up the fire and prepare food to lighten his mother’s burdens.
He also needed to think of a way to break the news of his departure to them since once the system had his results, he didn’t want to delay much longer.
