Town Lord and Lady

Seth was about to stand up, breathing a sigh of relief, when the woman moved her hand that had been resting on his side. Seth felt her move and spun around, watching her thin eyebrows flutter before she opened her eyes.

She glanced around the room and then focused on Seth, asking in a faint and tired voice, "Who are you?"

With a sigh, Seth said, "I'm a healer employed by your husband. How are you feeling?"

With one hand, the woman gingerly touched her forehead and made a sour face, saying, "My head hurts. What happened to me?'

'Are you sure nothing is wrong with her?' Seth verified with the system once more.

"You were sick, and I just treated you. You've also been unconscious for… two months. Your pain is a remnant of the treatment and will go away in a few hours. Please rest," said Seth in a soothing tone as he stood up.

The woman gazed at Seth's back, puzzlement visible in her eyes before she closed them and drifted off again.

"Sir?" asked the guard, a hopeful expression on his face as he saw Seth walk out.

"She is okay but still needs to stay in bed for a few hours."

"Thank you, sir Doctor." The guard was enthusiastic as he commanded a maid to care for the lord's wife and then took Seth through a lengthy hallway to the town lord's office.

"Sir Doctor, how is it?"

The town lord, with some difficulty, rose from his chair and inquired as soon as Seth entered.

"She needs a bit of rest, and then she'll be okay," said Seth in a nonchalant manner, acting like curing an illness no other healer employed managed to was no big deal for him.

"Ah, thank you, thank you, sir Doctor. You don't know how many healers have looked at her and couldn't even figure out why she was sick? No one in this world can match the skills of Sir Doctor," said the town lord, shaking Seth's hand in admiration.

'System, show me what you have on this guy. His enthusiasm is so fake I want to puke.'

Seth demanded the system to only provide him with the essential details, after a great deal of text appeared in his vision.

'24 gold coins, a wife beater, and slave owner? Well, I guess I'll kill him later. No reason for him to exist in my world,' thought Seth, using perfect body control to mask his repulsion.

Seth's experience with his divinity, his need for money, and the condition of that poor woman made Seth easily decide the town lord's fate.

"No need for thanks. I am quite tired and will take my leave."

"No can do, sir Doctor. At least promise me you'll join us for dinner this evening. I want to reward you properly."

After a bit of discussion, Seth accepted his invitation, and with the lord's order, he was escorted to the gate by the mansion's guards while the lord claimed he wanted to check on his wife's condition.

Taking a few more steps away from the mansion, Seth made his way into the alley, then quickly shifted his figure into the body of a bird. He flew and perched himself on the rooftop above, granting himself a great view of the lord's mansion.

Two people, both wearing all-black clothing, quickly ran over to the spot where Seth discarded his clothes and picked them up before returning to the lord's mansion a few seconds later.

'That bastard must think I was born yesterday,' scoffed Seth, following the two men from above, flying back in the mansion's direction.

One of the men presented the lord with the clothing he had retrieved from the ground and declared, "Your Lordship, it appears that we have lost him."

With an angry outburst, the town lord yelled, "Useless!" and threw the clothes into the unfortunate man's face. "Gather as much information as possible about him and leave no stone unturned. If you want to come back empty-handed, cut your necks into the river and rid us all of your uselessness."

"Yes, sir."

Two men wearing black, their foreheads glistening with sweat, sprinted away to learn more about Seth.

Amidst the chaos, no one spotted the little bird perched atop the lamp in the lord's garden, its intelligent eyes watching the commotion with a peculiar glint.

Seth kept after the lord as a bird and then shifted into a fly when the lord reached the front door, settling on his garments.

'How much time do I have before sustaining soul damage?'

<13 minutes.>

'That's enough. I want to look at what this lord is like when he thinks no one else is watching.'
